There was a festival of sorts in Wiesbaden this week, and part of that included one of those big circular swinging rides. I had a blast shooting there. Mostly I had a blast watching the people ride it. Kids of ALL ages raced up to grab a seat. I saw several adults (some quite advanced in years, I might add) who rode it multiple times. And they all had this look on their faces - simple, unadulterated fun was had by all. If it weren't for the editing, this would be in the "Pure" challenge as pure joy.

The original:

She does look a little like Hillary Clinton, doesn't she?

Not because of Don's comments :D - well actually it is one of his comments ... the mention of Hitchcock has for some reason set the theme tune to 'Tales of the Unexpected' playing in my head. Even though that was in colour and nothing to do with Hitchcock!

It was a fairground style tune though, and I guess that's my brain just picking up a reference from my youth to match the retro atmosphere, and this photo has that in abundance.

God I hope this makes sense. I came back intending to leave a better comment but I'm not sure I succeeded : )

I do think you succeeded. The fact that the picture has brought about differing opinions, references, and strangely, Hitchcockian inferences, means that it's more than just a nice snapshot. It's always interesting to me how different people interpret the same thing, and I'm pleased the "retro" aspect came through, despite the tread on her shoes. And for the record, yours was the one I saw in the challenge that made me say "Gosh, I thought mine was pretty good, but this is better!" for the sheer emotion of it. And I didn't realize these shots were cliche, but I really don't get out much. :-)

Didn't get to this in voting but I love how you've picked your subject out from the rest of the scene. You just forgot to add some DPC standard water drops :P

Wonderful shot. The only reason I didn't go higher than 7 is that it's such a cliche genre, but your shot is *much* less cliched than the blue ribbon winner. That's the kind of shot that the attendant hands you after your ride and asks for 5 bucks. Your shot, however, has a certain Hitchcockian drama to it, and nice oof background adding to the dizziness.
