Thanks for the kind comments. Trying to keep up with my sisters 2mccs and aberration in the MS Tourney.
Post was several adjustment layers with curves, selective color, and 4 passes of USM at varying settings.

Thank you Julianne. I have no clue how to sharpen with USM but I think I read somewhere (probably in a DPC forum) that it was best accomplished in several passes of small intensity - one pass after converting from RAW and the others after final resizing. I prefer to use high pass or edge sharpening, however, neither is legal in basic. (unless the rule has been changed)
Most of the detail in this photo was a result of using an excellent lens and the fact that I backlit with a green light and front lit with daylight. This allowed me to use selective color and curves to combine the textures as I saw fit.

Congratulations on your ribbon! I love the effect you got with USM. Do you have a formula you use for the different settings? I'd love to try that technique myself.

Wow!

Wish I had taken it - but maybe I am too staid and dull to think like it.

Thanks for the boot it has given me - I feel motivated to do something similar - emulation is the sincerest form of flattery, they say, so thanks again

the textures are great! Not sure it's fitting the challenge though. There is no process of the growth being caught in the act.

This looks like a silk flower to me.. (not a point deducter btw).. There's just something about the lighting that's giving it this strange effect. I would have liked to see the stem so maybe not such a close up.. Great focus. Overall a 6 for me so I give a 7..
