Got down to Indian Beach to shoot sunset...but it was a greyout (cloud bank just killed the light). Immediately after stepping out of the car up and stepping up to the viewpoint I see this lady walking along the shoreline and so I made this picture with this challenge in mind.

The title idea came from my dad charliebaker and is basically a latin word meaning meditation. It is the second step in Lectio Divinia. This image shows meditatio through this person's reflective walk along the beach.

Here are outtakes:

And since I like other people posting originals of their photos (especially ribbon winners), here is my original (straight out of camera and after raw processing):

As you can see, this image has been pushed past the reality of what I shot. But had I submitted what I shot, I doubt it would have scored this well. I normally do not modify images this much from the original.

Just out of interest, how did you post process it?

Editing steps in Photoshop CS included Shadow/Highlight, Levels, Color Balance, maybe a little bit of of Hue/Saturation, Image Size and USM. The color shift was achieved using color balance: bumping the reds and yellows way up in different amounts in shadows, midtones and highlights.

Great work in PP. If I had taken this shot I would have submitted the original and gotten a 4.0 with it if I was lucky. Can you explain how you managed to create the golden color while keeping the surf nearly white in Basic Editing?

Thanks for talking to the SC on getting my ribbon too. Now we both got the yellow which is pretty cool. This is a good shot and looks good next to mine.

congratz ... nice colors and processing, but i have to say the photo is nothing special in my opinion, except you caught great moment and processed it very hard to get what you liked (and voters of course) ... umm okay these two things are very important ... but as i said this is just my opinion NHF :-)

peace

I'm loving the concept of walking as we meditate! Life as pilgrimage or journey; meditation as our spiritual practice while we walk at the edge of the great mystery of God. Great photo capture of this basic "classic" spiritual practice. Congrats on yet another ribbon to hang on your bedroom cyberwall!

Beautiful. The undulating lines of the sea with the single figure - spot on. The rich tones from gold to purple totally awesome. I hate to admit it but this sunset is rockin' my world. ;~D
