This is Junianna. I was taking pictures for a work assignment. It was at a weekly Farmers Market and there were all kinds of fruit and vegetable vendors there. I was mostly just documenting the event -- then I spotted her: sitting in the bed of her grandparents' old, grungy pick-up truck all loaded down with the clutter you see. She looked so innocent and compelling to me, and well. . .a picture perfect dichotomy between innocence and beauty and the harsh ruggedness of her setting, and probably her life!

Junianna and her grandmother were happy to let me take her picture. I took a zillion of her -- and I think I got one or two of my event too :)

What beautiful eyes she has, and is such a sweetie. I like the 'grungy' feeling this one has, as it is unusual for a young girl like this, but it really suits the tone of the image so well

Sandy, forgot to comment when I saw this pic for the first time. It is a splendid portrait of a little girl. What contrasts.

An incredibly interesting and captivating photo Sandy. It amazes me that you would spot her out of the probably many people who were moving around this day. Her action, the lighting, and her eyes are incredible. Great photo!

Another fantastic portrait Sandy, my only possible 'complaint' was that this looked so perfect I had assumed that it had been set up with props in a studio

Very haunting expression on the girls face (almost a dichotomy in itself)

Great job, as ever

You went too far on the eyes. They look painted on so it doesn't look natural, just looks scary. I like the subduing of the background so credit where it's due.
07/12/2007 12:48:01 PM
Those are some amazing eyes. Sadly, some children lose their innocence and childhood a little too early. Excellent capture in a technically sound image. Meets the challenge quite well imo. 8

Compelling portrait.
Nit-picks: You didn't need "Harsh" in the title.
Remove the distracting yellow.
