What a roller coaster ride. Thanks you for the votes. It is a virtual ribbon I know but comming from this community of voters, it means alot to me.

This was a nightmare that my wife had for the longest time. Especially at the end of my career. And I know there are others who share this fear.

My first ribbon and it rocks.

Very poignant image and expertly photographed (I gave it a 9). Just think: a few more high votes on Ursula's shot and we'd have to tie a yellow ribbon... ;-)

Congratulations on your ribbon for this extremely moving photograph! For a moment, you wonder about the blur in the foreground and then the sharp black key words & the ring literally jump out at you. Great execution of the idea.

I once talked my son, Chris out of joining the Air Force and going to college instead. He also was going to get eye surgery to get his eyesight up to par for them. The irony is accidents can happen anywhere. He may have been safer going to Iraq. Some times things turn out bad, but let no one's fear of a NIGHTMARE get in the way of their DREAMS.

Congratulations on your first ribbon! What a remarkable and poignant image. Let's hope fewer of these become a reality. Great work.

As I write this, my son is in flight enroute home from a 16-month deployment in Iraq. Your image expresses what has been the nightmare in the back of our minds that entire time, and as someone else has said, it's the real nightmares that are the scariest.

I check this site weekly but rarely have time to comment. For this one I had to. Nice work.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! (And greetings from Kuwait, by the way.) Awesome idea, excellent execution, and I'm very very pleased to see you get a ribbon. And even though yellow is third on DPC, it seems to be very much the right colored ribbon for this photograph. Excellent work - very pleased to see this and you so honored.

A nightmare that is reality for some - the supreme sacrifice willingly made by one, but forced upon another at a time not of their choosing.

Hmmm, very topical and nicely shot. What would be good is to get some idea of the pain receiving this letter would cause. Maybe by including a half empty wine glass with some pills next to it. Still a great shot all the same, 9.
