This is my father-in-law Lou. He is one of the toughest son of a bitches I have ever met. He is also the most intelligent man on the planet. No matter what the subject or topic : sports, religon, politics, life, entertainment, whatever, this gentle man has the ability to engage you with a thoughtfilled discussion. I love him dearly. I was so glad he agreed to let me shoot his portrait the other day. This was shot in raw in the shadow of my little barn.

I did not do much to the shot. Converted to B/W and sharpened.

Thanks for looking

I thought this would make front page. I like everything about this shot. The b/w, clarity, crop and of course his look. You were up against some tough competition. But a very good finish. You never disappoint!!

I'm glad you made the top 25, though I'd hoped to see you on the front page. I think this is a terrific photo and it was one of only three 10s I awarded this challenge. The toughness and intelligence can be seen in his face and you captured it well.

Great b&w tones...perfects range and shades of grey. Really nice job of capturing this mans character. Well done!

Excellent clarity, and use of light. I assume the light is natural, it's hard to tell with these closeups. 6

The crop and focus are spot on. Great eyes. I think what hurts it is the conversion to BW left it kind of flat. I'd play with levels, curves and maybe some channel mixer in monotone, to really up the tonal range. The basics are definitely there. 6

amazing reflections in the eyes, good lighting, not sure I like the grainy look to it though.
