Talk about ferocious! Really a well captured moment! Great contrast.

From the Critique Club

I really don't know what I comments I can add that haven't already been pointed out by previous commentors or your outstanding score and ribbon!

This is simply an awesome shot. The focus, DOF and composition are right on. In fact the only things that I don't like about the shot (and very minor at that) are totally beyond your control. I don't really like the background (looks fake because, well, it's fake! It's a zoo...) and the small amount of glare that you did get off the glass.

Nice work and congrats on the ribbon!

Excellent Shot!!! I think that with a little bit more of DOF the shot could take a level higher!

I've gotten some great shots of these two females at the zoo also. I don't own a digital but this a really great shot. Nice job. Alot of people don't realize you don't aim directly at the glass but aim sort of sideways. Congrats!!!!!!!
01/27/2004 03:54:05 PM
this is an excellent shot, especially considering it was taken through glass! great work! you should make a print!
01/27/2004 01:15:48 PM
Beautiful Shot, although the poor guy looks like he needs to see a dentist :-)
01/27/2004 09:22:04 AM

what a great capture of such intensity! Wonderful photo...terrific color...You really brought this up close and personal!
01/26/2004 08:18:18 PM
I love this shot, the clarity, expression, even steamy breath. This was one of my favorite shots in the competition. Congrats... you were a worthy opponent! This was a very close competition.
Keep up the good work.

Congrats on the ribbon!! What a great catch! What focal length were you at?

01/26/2004 12:23:03 PM
This is great. Wanted to say congrats.
01/26/2004 08:07:16 AM
Wonderfully possessive and intimidating, congratulations.
01/26/2004 12:31:37 AM
She is one fierce-looking creature. Beautiful capture. Congratulations on the red.
01/26/2004 12:29:22 AM
I wouldn't say that, just a small glitch :)
Very nice work.

Awesome picture! Grats on a 10!
01/24/2004 12:02:17 PM
wow! what a capture! Love the ferocity & the intensity! 10
01/24/2004 10:33:15 AM
Not a bad shot, decent composition, but the conspicuouous glare(?) right smack in the middle of the photo is very distracting.
01/24/2004 10:08:24 AM
This is a great capture. There is a hot spot on the right side of his face, but what can you do? There seems to be a little bit of fog or steam or something under the left eye, but that could also be from whatever is causing the hotspot. It almost looks like a lens flare. But again, what can you do? A shot like this you have to take if you're any kind of photographer at all. Great job to get this one and a very good shot 8

This is my meat and your not having it. This is one of the nicest pictures of a captive cat I have seen I think (I assume it's captive).
Only one thing. as the depth of field is not isolating the face, and extends beyond the shoulders, it would have been nice to have got the whole body into focus. Now at the same time I do accept that to get him growling like that while looking almost exactly into the lens does not give time to adjust. - I would still hang it on my animal wall.

Best picture by far
01/23/2004 05:49:42 PM
This is a fantastic shot. The sharpness of the cat's facial features along with the bits of meat around it's mouth and paws really add to the intensity of the shot...good luck!

wow

Great capture of the growling tiger. Looks like it's warning you to stay away from it's meal. The slight blurred face puts you in the action. The eyes were captured beautifully and help to give the emotion of the beast.

AMAZING!!! Great DOF and perfect timing. The steam from his breath really adds life to this photo.

You got this shot in the right moment! amazing expression!! the only thing is that it has a blury spot in the left eye, otherwise... perfect
01/21/2004 08:45:33 PM

01/21/2004 05:05:26 PM

01/21/2004 04:50:50 PM
Wow, I wouldn't want to cross her path! Great capture of the expression!
01/21/2004 11:14:25 AM
Feeding time at the zoo, or a tiger in the wild? Either way, you've captured a powerful expression. This is no cute kitty or tamed beast.
01/21/2004 08:39:20 AM
Fantastic!!! You captured the primal instinct of this animal well. Hope there was a fence between you and this gorgeous creature! Sorry, can't vote on the member challenges, but wanted to wish you luck, I love this!
01/20/2004 09:29:05 PM
Bet you were glad he was in some type of "cage", he looks very serious. Nice shot.

It´s a fantastic shot!
01/20/2004 10:37:04 AM
Very nice shot, very clear (he needs his teeth cleaned, not that I'm volunteering!) the colours of his coat are really good too! The added steam coming from his mouth is good.

Think I would have liked to have seen more of his body, if that would have been too difficult, maybe more of his paws holding the meat. Alos, sharpening it up a little would have brought out more detail, especially in his face. 7
01/20/2004 09:51:13 AM
Awesome pic - excelent!!!!!!!!!
01/20/2004 08:06:26 AM
Fearsome shot, well captured
01/20/2004 07:17:24 AM
marvelous expression. good title. a dark background may have conveyed the message more effectively but this is a natural setting so it is very good as well.

01/19/2004 08:12:18 PM
Scary - really scary.
01/19/2004 06:09:50 PM
Great subject, but the tigers face is a bit overexposed on the right.. And the other animal(or whatever that is :) in the background is rather distracting. Still a nice photo, 7

wonderful capture! love the expression/emotion and .. even the steam rising to the right.
01/19/2004 05:53:20 PM
wow..an amazing capture, were you taunting him to get him to growl like that? lol One of my favorites in the challenge so far and there are so many good ones this time around. Nice work. 10
01/19/2004 04:44:14 PM
Stunning shot! 10
01/19/2004 01:16:29 PM
great subject and the bars don't distract too much. Might have been worth moving slightly to avoide the 3 'antennas' growing out of the head

The bits of meat flying about really make this shot! 10
01/19/2004 12:13:21 PM
awesome!
01/19/2004 11:50:01 AM
Nice capture - the look, the color, the lighting... 10 in my books!
01/19/2004 11:44:56 AM
Did you make this one angry? Obiviously not the type that likes to have his picture taken.
01/19/2004 10:46:55 AM
Dinner time!! Nice shot with good color.
01/19/2004 10:43:32 AM
Yep, very NG. Excellent capture of expression. Cloing out the sticks coming out of his head would improve the shot a small bit - Well done
01/19/2004 10:05:53 AM
WOW this is a great shot, it would be perfect if it did not have that reflection from the glass on the right side, but then again if the glass was not there you would have been desert LOL so great shot ...9
01/19/2004 07:07:37 AM
What did you say to this buddy so he got that angry? Scary!!!
It's a very good picture, In bonus you captured the feeling of cold. Beautiful! 9.
01/19/2004 06:38:13 AM
i love the expression
01/19/2004 04:38:14 AM
This is 100% timing. Thses big animal shots all look sedated normaly ;)

Only beef is the whiet flare on his left eye and the trees in th background. Those could have been corrected in seconds, but understand if your trying to maintain a tru photographic record. As it stands a 9, and my hot tip for 1st.

Great shot. I hope there was a fence between you and him.
01/19/2004 01:46:00 AM
Now that is an expression that would scare the sock off anyone! Great shot, I am certainly hoping that is a glass glare on the right eye (his left), this is a great shot 9
01/19/2004 12:56:12 AM
This is just superb! What a perfect expression to go with your title!
01/19/2004 12:53:43 AM
Wow -- that's impressive and certainly nails the challenge subject! Could be a winner this time around! - 10
01/19/2004 12:15:11 AM
Absolutely fantastic. You really caught the action on this one. 10!
01/19/2004 12:06:46 AM
Love the expression, since editting is allowed could have removed the trees(?) behind him to give an all white background.
