today i went to a funeral, for the dad of our beautiful DPC friend sandyp . it was a lovely celebration, with many memories of love and service and faith, for a remarkable man. i took this picture afterwards at the family gathering (i am lucky that our families have known each other longer than we haven't, and we always welcome each other into the fold.) at one point the youthful beings in attendance were all drawn to this one big chair and they were climbing around enjoying each other's company and celebrating the moment with such enthusiasm and joy... i had to pull out the camera. and even though this image is shaky and blurry, i really like it. it feels like that moment in time was captured. and i'd like to think that Pa Pa smiled when the room filled with such an out-pouring of love... because this is his legacy.

Wow this is an awesome photo. So much love and energy in it! I like that the girl in the middle is almost in focus - that helps pull your attention back in from the swirly movement. That is great that you were there with Sandy during that time and now have a great moment captured from it.

My partner always says that deaths should be a joyous occassion of love and remembrance. I understand how it's usually not so. But his nana's death was like that, everyone was there to see her off.

I love the fact that a funeral can be a celebration of a life rather than simply the mourning of loss

The blur works very well for the shot and the whole image captures the sense of life and exurberance of kids

Love it

The thumb really drew me in. I don't have time to comment on a lot of photos right now, but I had to see what this was about and I'm happy I did.

The atmosphere that comes across here is just fabulously captured. Thanks for putting into context and I am so sorry to hear about Sandy's father. Serendipitously (what a word!), today is the anniversary of my father's death in 1986. I must have been picking up on what this photo was about. Thanks for posting it.

It's really blurry, but memories and thoughts are more important than technical quality.

After reading what you wrote, and then looking at the photo, it brings a little tear in my eye. Very lovely capture for the moment.

This is fantastic! There is no rule that says images need to be in sharp focus and without blur. Some of my favorites in this site are photos like this one, filled with intense emotion. Wonderful capture. I am adding this to my favorites.

i was drawn to this as a thumb and then i read your comments .. sandy is one of the people who absolutely shines in dpc .. she said her dad was ready to go .. this photograph is a wonderful reminder of the joy even while in sorrow .. (i cant think of a better way to express it or the words right now) .. i reckon as a photograph it is totally excellent .. the blur and out'v focus just gives this so much movement and feeling .. :)
edit .. just had to add .. that gorgeous laughing girl holding the baby .. the hands reaching out .. everyone touching each other .. i'm sure not just physically .. :)

They are the legacy. The expression on her face and the smile to the left. You can hear it. nice shot, and a sad, yet wonderful story.
