I cant seem to do anything right...

Oh my..nice response! Ok, explanation...this was for a trash the dress session. I bought an underwater housing baggie thingy but never tested it and I was afraid to fully submerge the darn thing. Not to mention, I had no goggles and couldnt see what I was shooting. I had the lens set to 17mm for the widest angle and room to just crop out excess but the darn lens slipped and ended at 30mm. You cant rezoom the lens once its in the bag, i was already wet and didnt want to chance reopening the baggie and the pool just isnt very big. I could barely get control of aperature and shutter as well. Its really a pain. I had visions of this perfect face floating around under water..in color...you know..photographic technical perfection that I can never seem to achieve. The bride could not open her eyes because of contacts. The dress was too heavy to really swim or move around. And I had no clue if any of the shots would be in focus! This is the only shot that really worked with her swimming under water. It was the only one with her face moving up and getting a bit of light on it. The only one where she wasnt blowing huge air bubbles out of her nose.

Anyway, the trash the dress session was supposed to be a big production in the swamps. Everyone else backed out because the day began with rain. I had my baggie and this couple drove down from texas to shoot this...so shoot we did. We decided to run around town and find what we find. Luckily, the videographers to be involved have a courtyard pool in the quarter and we took advantage of it.

I made a silly slideshow from the session and i guess that is the real story....Trash The Dress

The song is by Matt Costa "behind the moon"

This is an excellent image. It should have done much better, but I suppose it's not DPC friendly enough. It looks even better in the larger resolution in the video.

This is amazing. You did so much right. The video is amazing and there are so many photos that speak to me on so many levels that it is incredible. I can understand that you you may have wanted something else from the water shoot but think of you all learned and all you did. Again... Amazing.

It took me a while to figure out the picture. That slide show is amazing. The music was great, I hadn't heard it before. I don't know how she managed to keep the dress looking so pristine except for some wrinkles after all that cavorting in the weeds, on the rusty hood (bonnet for you in the UK) and in the pool. Between the dress and tux it's an expensive tradition.

Not that you need another comment in the 10 ballpark... Reminiscent of Julia Cameron: the hair(which is fabulous along with dress - they both transmute to magic in the water) and the light give it the pre-Raphael feel; yet the composition is original and fabulous. Subtlety and restraint in title.

You know, I've always hated wedding photos, but yours are spectacular! If I was getting married any time soon, I'd tell you, by all means, to trash the dress. Having looked through that slideshow, I'm incredibly impressed with the character you got out of those shots, and the whimsy and life and - well, everything. They're raw human and absolutely beautiful.

alive.

thats how your work makes me feel! and you know what. sometimes when i look at certain photographers work it makes me feel doomed... like, shit, i could never ever be that good. but when i look at your work i feel the opposite. so inspired and hopeful. because, to me, it seems as though you're just wholeheartedly in love with the human spirit. like, you're not really trying to impress anybody... you're just making everything beautiful because thats what you were made to do. thats what i admire so very very much.

Julia!
OMG - just when I thought I'd seen your best slide show, along comes Trash the Dress!

How do you do that? Aside from the technicals, I want to know how you capture the moment - how much do you orchestrate? What resides in you to find the music to accompany it? Where does the creativity and ideas come from? How long have you been doing this? I want to crawl inside your head for a while - not necessarily for weddings, but for how you capture the spirit of the human soul.

I'm amazed.

Right. Uh huh. Sure.
Your wrongs are better than my rights.

This shot needs a story to go with it.
Who - what - where - how thing. It's mystical.
Almost looks like it was shot through glass in the side of a pool, and she's swimming towards the glass.

Cool shot.

WOW,The composition here is absolutely lovely, the diagonal lines are fantastic and i love that the eyes are closed and it gives her a sense of peace. i really would love to know how you shot this, underwater camera? I love the softness, its amazing how well you preserved the details at the same time though, wow.......!!!!

Interesting... like the Lady of Shallot or Ophelia kind of thing. This is really cool! I always wanted to do a shoot like this! I like the processing, like an old photo, adds to the whole theme. The only thing that might have added to this is perhaps some greenery like vines or lily pads or flowers. Might have done a little more to hide the bottom of the swimming pool too and give it more of a pond or lake feel.
