Oxen are born leaders, inspiring confidence in everyone they come into contact with. However, they can be too demanding. Methodical and good with their hands, they make fine surgeons and hairdressers.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone. I am so pleased to have won a ribbon with this entry. This is indeed a cape buffalo. It was the closest thing to an Ox I could find. I almost didn’t enter this in the challenge but now I am glad I did. When I think of an Ox, this is the animal I picture in my mind.

Congrats on an excellent photo, Gringo. Van is correct, this is a Cape Buffalo, and is probably the most dangerous animal in Africa.

Was this taken in a Natural History Diorama??

The skeleton in the background and the catchlight in the eye along with those curvy horns make this an extra special photograph. 8

This has a great tone to it. The image is nicely sharp, dof is good, and I like the bones in the background. Composition is great, and the catchlights in the eyes really stand out. The horns have great texture, so does the hair/fur on the face and back.

Nice shot and the sepia is great. The carcasses in the background take away from the theme, though, since the Ox is about abundance and having enough to eat.

Good shot. I like the bones in the background. The picture is just a little soft. Good catchlights and I like the expression. 7

those bones in the background are fascinating - what is the story here? The ox is well caught too - nice detail, great expression, I like the sepia tone.

Interesting subject and setup, . I would like to see the ox more made obvious(maybe more light on it, or /and more contrasted?)

I'm only guessing, but is this fake? Either way, I think the bones in the background really add something to the shot, and the sepia works well too.

Gorgeous. I love the offbalance look with the overpowering image of the ox in the foreground, and the bones as a subtle background point.
