This remains one of my favorite animal photos on the site. Excellent clarity and composition. I love how you got the attention of all four - the expressions are pricelessly blank and focused. :)

After all this time, thought it needed a bump up on the recently commented page again. This is just outstanding. Not only compositionally, but grapically, aesthetically and just plain "heart string pullingly." Love it!!

Wow, ya learn something new every day. That's such a coincidence!

On a similar note, I realised half way through voting that the number 4 is actually bad luck in China (hence why there is no Canon G4 camera) so I'm sorry if I accidently offended anyone, with it being in a Chinese-based challenge and all that.

your critique club moment

Hi Ben.

Very tempted to leave this blank, as there is almost definitely nothing I can constructively say about this shot. What would you have different, either in the image or the result? Only one thing that i thought immediately on seeing it, and still think on re-consideration of it, is that if one could move the second sheep from left forward a couple of paces, and to its right half a step, the balance of the composition would be improved - it almost goes without saying that this is a ridiculously small criticism (but this is the Critique Club)

Can I think of anything else to say ... ? Black and White works for this shot for a very specific reason: I can imagine it in colour - even quite liking it so (the green grass would presumably be a satisfying colour). Removing that element brings the emphasis to a different place - the graphic element provided by the line-up of the animals: and that is where the humour is, of course: the apparently 'posed' quality: 'OK now, everyone point your ears out'

Top work, mate.

Ed

Thanks everyone :D
It took me a long time to get my blue back but finally I did it! 95th time lucky! This and getting into the top fav photographers on the site were my 2 main aims, and I've completed them both now in the space of a few days, I'm so happy! What's next? Hmmm I'll have to think about that one.
Thanks for all the comments and votes. I thought I might get a ribbon when I saw my score was 7.5 throughout the week, but then on the last couple of days as it dropped and dropped, I felt sure I'd get 4th place or something annoying like that (sorry mood!).

Oh, another good thing about today is that I got my first picture published in a newspaper! I'm at school right now but when I get home I'll scan it in :)

Woohoo!

Keep up the good work!

This is cute, I like it. The black and white is a good choice to give it a nice even feel, and also a harsher/docu-photograph feel. The composition is good with the slight V. It's full of personality.

01/29/2004 04:43:16 AM
I really like the composition, the choice of black and white, the clarity, the exposure...umm what else do I like...well, pretty much everything. My only nitpick would be that the image seems to be cropped a bit too tightly at the top (for my taste) but that's a minor nitpick. I'm really glad it meets the challenge because this is a great shot, keep up the great work.

Four of almost any animal lined up like that would look menacing, but not sheep. Cute shot, and I think black and white was a good choice.

That's a great one: B&W works wonderfully and the cropping/framing too. What did you tell or do to the sheeps to make them look this way?
Good luck!

I love this entry into the Chinese Zodiac challenge. Very very well done. You captured these guys (gals?) at the perfect moment and I love your choice to keep the photo in black and white. I can't give you a score, but if I could, it would surely be at least a 9. Good luck in the challenge.

Hehe. I like this one. Cute, well-taken, appropriate for the challenge. The grass, however, creates an overall dark tone. I think that the feeling here should be lighter, to match the mood. 7
