Post Challenge
First of all, let me apologize to Larus for the touch of vertigo my pic caused him ,-)

I started off photographing a seashell for this challenge. 1 hour and over a 100 shots later I had to admit to myself that I can’t get ONE decent image of a shell!

Soooo, I got a glass out of the cupboard and started again. One glass led to two, three and then four. Looked fine but needed a spot of colour (water mixed with food colouring). After what seemed like a million shots I started looking at them on my laptop. Aaarrghhh! The two blotchy sensor dust spots I’d forgotten about. I know you’re allowed to remove sensor dust in basic editing, but I just didn’t want to take any chances so I wet cleaned my camera sensor with trembling fingers (hadn’t dared to clean the D2X before) and then took some more shots. Checked them and thankfully the very last one was exactly the one I wanted.

A few mentioned the glass bottoms at the top of the image. I had intended to crop them but when I saw the reflections and refractions, I decided to keep them and I’m glad I did because I think it adds an added unusual touch to the whole thing.
Thanks very much for the comments and votes. I’m totally thrilled with my ribbon and my score.

To ephln Evelyn, I promise you the glasses were backlit. It’s the only way I know to make glass look like this.

The majority of the glasses being upside-down makes the filled glass seem like it were upside-down instead.
It's pretty wierd how that works. ^_^

I give it a 8. ;)

Great contrast and composition i love the way the stems of the glasses bring our more shapes and reflective curves.
  Photographer found comment helpful.
08/22/2007 11:13:17 AM
the first thing that came to my mind was an hourglass.
one of the most appealing shots in this back-lit glass category. the way curves are intertwined is just priceless. i personally would have cropped the base of glasses from the top to make this excellent shot a bit "cleaner" though. they add unnecessary complicated element to the shot and takes away viewer's attention from beautiful curves. one of my favorites of this challenge. good luck.
