Bought a gold fish just for this shot. It was probably one of th e toughest shot I ever had to do!

To have the fish and cat looking at each other was sooooooooo difficult! The cat didn't care much about the fish.... :-(

I finally got this one shot!

PS stuff...

Cleaned out lots of the glass and just left a nice clean contour. Made everything nice and white. Cloned part of the fish's stomach as it was overex.Dodged both eyes. Burned some of the cat's fur. Added USM, difuse glow and gaussian blur at 20% on the cat only.

VoilĂ ! :-)

This is one of a kind!! Really nice. The contrast is great between the orange fish and the black cat with the white background. BRAVO

i left a comment earlier about thinking this was pushing the limits of photography - it seems it ( the comment ) was removed. so i'll mention it again.

a nice piece of work, but not a photo.

Wonderful simplicity of design and great use of color. I agree that this belongs on a poster, calendar or card.
02/14/2004 11:12:57 PM
What a wonderful shot! Should be a poster. I know how hard it is to get animals to cooperate. Takes a great deal of patience and a trigger quick finger. It's a wonderful capture. I love it!
02/10/2004 11:05:36 PM
Excellent job! I know how hard it is to get that much interest between a cat and a fish!
02/10/2004 12:30:26 PM
Congrats!
02/10/2004 02:24:43 AM
Love this picture, you must be a very patient person to sit there and wait for this, awesome!
02/10/2004 12:54:27 AM
Hi I really like your image, Humourous, great colour and good focus
Congratulations on your blue ribbon.
Although I don't think I would let that fish loose
My cat and most cats would eat the fish I think.
I am glad he is in the bag.

I would think they are opposites
Nice one though!
02/09/2004 09:54:39 PM
This shot is awesome. I really like the orange glare from the fish in the cats eye. Congrats!
02/09/2004 01:02:04 PM
Thanks guys! :-)

I'll take the time and show you how I didi this shot later on in the week!!

Hooray the cat photos have crossed over the line to the winner's circle, finally. Congratulations on your win, great shot, and a trend setter (I hope :)) just kidding for the cat shot haters.
02/09/2004 08:49:18 AM
Congratulations on your blue - settled the "cat question" forever, I hope.
02/09/2004 08:16:48 AM

02/09/2004 03:25:41 AM

Fantastic photo..maybe best of the challenge. Do fish and cats actually go together? Debatable. But a great shot.
02/08/2004 10:36:00 PM
Very nice. Great composition and choice of background.

02/08/2004 08:07:26 PM
I love the lighting on this. Great shot, nice contrasting colors.
02/08/2004 03:40:54 PM
I think you would have done better with just the fish and the water, good colour.
02/08/2004 12:00:06 PM
This is amazing my favorite so far, wonderfully executed, the detail is wonderful 10
02/07/2004 06:33:54 PM
Great colours
02/07/2004 02:16:42 PM
very nice. It seems cruel thou. the goldfish has no room.
but must have taken ages to get them looking at each other. however the cats eye doesnt seemt to be loking right at the fish. But still very niec
02/07/2004 11:54:47 AM
WOW!
02/07/2004 02:40:34 AM
overexposure done right. not only do the cat and fish go together, but the fish and water, and so does black and white. great choice of colours and focus, if this is not the winner, i don't know what is.

good detail and a great idea
02/06/2004 03:53:22 AM
That cat doesn't look happy!
02/06/2004 12:53:49 AM
Nice - wonder how much post processing is involved... 8
02/05/2004 05:28:14 PM
I love this shot. It is a great capture. The color contrast is beautiful as is the lighting and focus. This is one of those that makes me say, "I wish I had done that!" Hope to see it in the top three!
02/05/2004 04:47:11 PM
good idea but way over-exposed, or manipulated too much; the glass is lost against the background and there is not much detail in the cat's fur
02/05/2004 03:15:21 PM
Very nice, good colours, like how they are both looking at each other... Wonder what they are thinking... The cat seems a little dark around the back of it's chin etc. 8
02/05/2004 01:24:41 AM
I didn't realize a goldfish could have an expression....he looks scared to death
02/04/2004 03:13:45 PM
My favourite in this challenge... simple and efficient composition. The black cat is a great contrast to the white background and the colorful fish. Good job!
02/04/2004 01:40:46 PM
Well taken shot, love the simple look this shot has, great for a Mag or Book
02/04/2004 12:01:22 PM
The cat may think they go together; I'm not sure the fish woujld agree. Nice rendition of the fish; I'd like to see more detail in the cat, though I have a black cat and I know how hard it is to get detail.

Great picture, bad title for the challenge theme. (How can they be partners - the cat would eat the fish. What crime would they commit toghether.)
02/03/2004 11:05:20 PM
funny
02/03/2004 08:00:27 PM
great shot! can;t wait to see how it was done. I'm sure it took a lot of patience! Had it at a 9 but gonna give it a 10!
02/03/2004 10:40:59 AM
My fav so far. Well done.
02/03/2004 05:26:53 AM
Too cute! Fabulous light, color, and composition if this was taken as one shot. The capture of the cat and the fish is just perfect. One of my top picks. I hope this wins and pisses off all the cat haters! (But I do hope this isn't a composite of two separate photos-I would be disappointed in that).
02/03/2004 01:58:18 AM
very striking contrast... beautiful photo. 9
02/03/2004 01:33:52 AM
I think one is about to become a victum rather than a partner. Regardless, you've handled a wide tonal range very well. It's a very effective photograph.
02/02/2004 11:57:52 PM
Nice job. Great simplicity and colors.
02/02/2004 10:52:41 PM
Excellent hi key shot! I don't know if a fish and a cat go together (but I bet the cat thinks the fish would go nice with a little milk. ;)
02/02/2004 08:09:29 PM
my favorite in the challenge. good sharp image and fun colors with a high key background well done.
02/02/2004 07:09:18 PM
Great colors. Fish almost looks like he is suspended in air.
02/02/2004 02:16:15 PM
Good balance in color and form. One of the best in the group.
02/02/2004 01:48:56 PM
How cute :) this is a good 10+ from me
02/02/2004 01:19:18 PM
The overlighting makes it look almost like the fish is swimming in air (I'm sure you intended this). Very interesting shot and a unique pairing. (shouldn't the fish be in the cat's stomach?) Nice shot.

My favorit in this challenge! How the cat looks at the fish is awesome. Would have liked it to see a bit more of the glass though.
Hope you do very well!
02/02/2004 09:29:10 AM
IMrpessive how they stare at each other.Great concept and well done! 9
02/02/2004 08:22:28 AM
This cat looks exactly like mine!!! What a great capture!
02/02/2004 06:44:06 AM
This really works well..the orange and black stands out so clearly that it adds impact to the shot.
Weel done
02/02/2004 06:39:47 AM
Funny and good.
02/02/2004 02:33:16 AM
Are you and the cat setting the fish up...? :)
02/02/2004 01:27:30 AM
oh this is a great picture! you should send it to a greeting card company! 10
