This ended up being a 3 hour detour home, having found favourable weather conditions after leaving work (I actually had the foresight to take my camera with me!!!). I'd never been to this part of the lake district before, but had alway's wanted to visit, and since the weather was looking good, I thought 'what the heck'! besides, I'd not yet shot anything suitable for this free study.

I opted to name this Elysian Fields, after the paradisaical land of Greek mythology I once read about; the final resting place of the souls of the heroic and virtuous, where the dead hoped to spend eternity. On visiting this awe-inspiring place, it wasn't dificult to imagine as I looked down into this beautiful valley as the sun set, that I could indeed for a magical moment be inhabiting a devine heaven.

One of my favorite places in the world and you brought it to life. And thanks for the more than kind comment.

Your technique is stellar--particularly the way you have brought out the detail of the foreground.

Great colors, this also should have scored well over a 7, incredible shot, already added to faves during voting

Pity about the blown sky, this would have been a good opportunity for you to try out some HDR since the rules allowed it.

Great shot. Good work to keep so much detail in the shot considering the bright sun. Not sure what you wanted as the main focus of the shot though.

Wow - what a great vantage point! You captured this scene incredibly well. Given the ruleset, an HDR from bracketed exposures would have been ideal here, tho' - then you could have brought back some of the sun to really bring its presence into the scene more tangibly. << 8 >>
