i watched a guy at the beer store talk to a styrofoam container of worms.

two for a buck candy - yum.

i photo'd a candy worm hanging from a fish hook, and then measured a can of olives. i made a new label for the can, and dumped the olives. i used a can opener to remove both the top and bottom of the can.

set the can on a piece of plexi-glass, and the 550ex below and aiming at the background. this created a nice backlighting to the candy worms - and the fact the bottom was cut out, let some light shine up through the can. that's how the part of the worms inside are also backlit.

the lable needed some brightening. i had a hard time getting the lighting right on the worms, while at the same time ligthing the can -w/o too much glare. so i gave up and fixed that in post.

i probably should have had a swedish fish on the lable along with the worm & hook, but i wanted to keep the label kind of no-frills - so as not to distract from the main subject - being the candy itself.

to catch the swedish fish, you need the right bait ;}

i predict a 5.978

dodge/burn in areas - adjust color temp, adjust levels for can, and mask out the rest - work on can with dodge/burn & selective color - sharpen.

I've never seen this one! Delightful! (And love the explanation, particularly the part about the guy talking to the bait.)

This is so cute!

I love it when people don't expect a photo to do that well, then it totally kicks butt. Usually it so happens in the other direction :) Congratulations on an honorable mention placing. This is awesome.

i find the can a little on the large side for me and a bit distracting, it might be the label or a bit of both.... Good concept though and like it.

Interesting but i think there are some aberrations around most of the snakes which detracts from its quality. Nice idea.
