Camera: Nikon D70
Lens: Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM for Nikon
Location: Chicago,IL

This is pretty much my first shot like this. Taken from "top of the 'cock" … the John Hancock building observatory in Chicago, Illinois. I didn't have a tri-pod so the camera (with polarizer) is propped against the window and floor with a 30sec exposure. I get a bit anxious in such locations but this made it a bit more fun for me.

SUPPORT The Race For the Cure!
OK FOLKS! Thanks so much - I predicted a 6.2-6.4 so I was elated this week. I'm trying to raise funds for the Race-for-the-Cure this week so please consider buying a print (any profit will got to the race this weekend) of this or donating directly (see link in my profile). I've been having difficulty accessing the page to edit my contribution page so I have no funds yet this year (last year I raised $130). Help women get mammograms who would otherwise not have enough money!

Congrats on the win! I had to laugh at your technique (30 sec., no tripod). Just goes to show how you can make great images with less equipment.

Awesome shot Tate! Congratulations!! I imagine your knees did feel a bit fuzzy as you were taking this shot but it was sure worth it. The man who will do anything for his art (I know - I've been there to see it!!) : )

awesome shot with great detail and clarity. congrats on the blue! Actually I submitted a pick for the Urban Landscape's challenge last month from almost this exact vantage point and I too feel the pain of having that building block the best view of the city. But that didn't seem to hurt you!

Very nice, I always appreciate good cityscape photos since I never see stuff like this in Iceland (there probably live more people in the area seen in this shot than in my whole country). Congrats!

I had no idea this was yours Tate - but it was my top pick in the challenge. It's a wonderful and very "powerful" night shot.

Congratulations on a new PB and another blue (maybe you should apply for membership with the Ribbon Hogs now?)

Hey America! There's some dull black stuff to the left up there - power it up and stick some Chevvies on it!

Stunningly well exposed shot and certainly demonstrates why the US emits 25% of Earth's CO2.

Unbelievably intense. The moment I laid eyes on this I was stunned. The textures created by the buildings and the millions of lights is just awesome. I also love the black and gold colors...which makes me almost whish the greenish building in the lower left was not there. But that's just my opinion. Absoulutley beautiful image!
