This is my son Daniel in his backyard hideway. The weather this fall has been incredibly mild so far, and, in fact, it was a balmy 85 degrees today. So if you happen to be a ten year old boy, it was a great shirts-off kind of day. Daniel is constantly building and rebuilding this little retreat in a wooded area of our yard. He stores all kinds of natural collections here, and creates things like rock museums with his friends. They spend hours scrounging, digging, arranging and trading.

This has a real old feel to it. I love the way the shadows are cast throughout the picture.

Erin... wow. This is perfect. The first thing I thought of when I saw it was To Kill a Mockingbird... then boys' adventure stories. Beautiful and evocative.

He has such striking features and what a great portrait of him. Just him being him. These are the best kinds of photos. The kind that he'll at later and be transported back to that place and time in his mind. Wonderful, as always. :)

What a great pose, his body matches so many of the lines of the structure... the play of light and shadow is so interesting... such a natural, relaxed expression... beautiful tones... this is pretty amazing!!!

Oh how awesome. Doesn't it take you back to the carefree innocence of childhood. It goes by so fast. I'm glad he . . and you. . and even us are enjoying it so much.

I love how you have processed this. It reminds me of a picture you would see from the 50s or 60s. I just keep looking at it. Very nicely done.

I LOVE this! It looks like it could be a still frame from a movie. They're both great shots, awesome job!

i've been watching "the war" on PBS and this totally looks like one of the soldiers-with-their-shirts-off scenes in the south pacific, with the logs and everything. except the soldiers were, of course, older...but not by much. it's really got an antique-y feel.

i have to say that i think i really like the second one better. :)

As karen did , i thought of Huck Finn- this has such an old time , nostalgic feel. (I remember my boys and the hours they spent in their "forts" in the woods behind our house- thanx for the memory !)

Magnificent, hauntingly atmospheric. Love the light/shadow play and the BW treatment. Great story, too.

Judy is right. I was trying to remember why this looks so familiar. Then I read her comment and I immediately knew it gave that same old-movie feel. The contrast made by the light is incredible.

Great shot.

Oh my goodness. You know what immediately comes to mind? The boy in "To Kill a Mockingbird." Your work is something I look forward to every day. Just beautiful and the tones - wow. LOVERLY

really good dof with the face so sharp; I like the b&w conversion too. And clearly the ruleofthirds composition works well too.
Did you selectively sharpen the face?

Another nice photo, well done on the sepia. I'm guessing you dodged the eyes. Although they are a little too white for my taste, they really stand out.
