Challenge: Searching (Advanced Editing V)
Collection: Successful Challenge Entries
Camera: Nikon D70
Lens: Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM for Nikon
Location: Lakewood, OH (looking at Cleveland)
Date: Oct 5, 2007
Aperture: f11
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/100
Date Uploaded: Oct 5, 2007

So this is supposed to be a bit symbolic - Cleveland is here, but it doesn't get quite the attention it needs to truly thrive. It is one of those places - it was a booming industrial town -but now, unlike places like Chicago, it's struggling to keep people here. People say "people don't come to Cleveland" People live in the suburbs - There's much potential here and I think it is under-rated - so there's a future to be sure.

Details: Taken at 11.5mm. There was no 2nd light source, I used Photomatix with 3 differently exposed TIFs from 1 RAW image. Then tweaked as needed.

Woohoo! I'm glad this went over well- I think the yellow ribbon position is perfect considering the subject's angle. When I saw this early morning sun and haze I rushed so fast I fell down this hill - I also was covered in sweat running around in this super humid air.

I love the leading lines, balance of greenery, wide to telephoto subject sizes. The comical exageration of the wide angle distotion and happen to have a leaning telesope, to and body movement leans into the direction of the telscope.

Even looking in the "Wrong" direction for the "lost-city". Very well done.

That's what 10mm does to you from a low angle...

Great shot metate, no surprise it ribboned.

PSSSSTTTT....it's to the right. : ) Am I the 136th person to leave that comment? Love the unreal feel of this image - sort of like it's a shot from one of those old movies just after they could do color. Very nicely done. Back to bump you up to 9.

This looks like the city where metatate lives. Don't remember where. I like the exagerated(sp) perspective.

While the overall image is stunning, the longer I look at it the more I can only see this as possible if there were 3 suns. Nice photoshop work.

Love the way the light is streaming towards the city in the background. Nice sky, and good to see that there aren't any big blown out patches of clouds. Something about the angle here makes the man feel squashed or stretched horizontally, but I can't quite figure out what it is.

I wish that the man was sharper...is this a single exposure HDR? There's definitly a halo around his shirt and jeans.

However, the idea is creative and the composition is well executed; I can't fault the entire image for a few minor flaws--8

Best yet, I love the color of the sky and the distant city, would love to see the original and PP steps for this. The only things that I might do differently are to reduce halo's between your "looker" and the BG, and the right side of the foreground has a strong feel of leaning to the left. Very nice.
