Challenge: Letting Go (Basic Editing I)
Camera: Olympus C-5050Z
Location: Home
Date: Feb 10, 2004
Aperture: 5.6
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/30
Date Uploaded: Feb 10, 2004

Last minute idea and entry - took about 6 pics until the 4-yr old model became unwilling. Actually got 3 shots that I liked - chose this one on advice from the wife because it seemed to tell the story of "letting go" the best.

Model was a good actor - has never had any attachment to any blanket, and certainly not this one (it isn't even his). Will get low votes from the haters of kid photos, but I've had zero time to shoot lately, and less to think up ideas. Set-up and shoot took about 15 minutes. Do not expect this to do well, but it was fun to shoot for a challenge (the second that I have actually shot for!).

I just love the look on this boy's face. You've managed to capture an emotion and that's not always easy to do. The background, a black comforter I presume, is a bit distracting for me. The cropping is a little tight, but the focus is well done. I think this would've appealed to me a great deal more in B&W. SCORE:5 Well done! Good luck!

funny thing, there is no need for kids to ever give up their "transitional objects!" Nice pic tho

You are one of the few that actually capture a feeling of letting go. Good job.

So sad, it does not seem he wants to let go. Does it?

He looks so serious! Good actor and he doesn't want to give up that blankie. lol
Neat idea for the challenge but I think you should of been lower with the camera and used a bit of cover on your light.

his face really does look sad ;'(. the only thing i could try to give you advice for is your choice of background. i would use sheets as they dont have the lines on them and are easy to iron to get the wrinkles out of. also for smaller scenes, regular poster paper works good.

Good idea. But it seems very poor in photographic resources. A B&W look or some kind of multi light sources can add to the message expressed. Your contrasts are good. The flash was well used too. But ever try to think that any P&S camera can get it. The flash angle is very commom. Alternative light is a point that split photographers from the crowd.

Oh yes, I had one when I was a child, and used it until it was totally worn out. Hated it when it got cleaned. Drove my parents mad when I lost it. So recognisable. Good idea and well captured, good expression.

A classic but I don't think he's letting go, he's holding on for dear life! :)
