Well, I'm thrilled to win my first ribbon in my favourite photographic discipline! Macro gives us an opportunity to see design and beauty that might otherwise get overlooked. Well done to everyone in the challenge for the many beautiful shots, and thanks Mr fly for sitting still ;)

A very still day and a resting fly so I was able to get a good DOF for once.
Tripod, mirror lock up,cable release, shot in RAW, ambient light. In ACR, tweaked the curves to regain some of the detail under the body and to calm the highlights down. Convert to 16 bit Tiff. In PS a bit more curve tweaking and dodge/burn, crop and resize.

Wow nice capture. I never get enough of insect shots no matter the insect. This fly is fabulous. I wonder if it's looking at you through that drop on its eye?

Superb

Well now, that's just showing off! ( the fly, I mean)

You must have the patience of a saint, and what a lovely rich set of colours - I live in England, and don't remember seeing flies with red eyes - just shows you what you miss if you don't look close enough!

Very, very nice picture. I wonder if they will ever produce a lens which will stop down to about f100 - so that you can get almost infinite depth of field?

I looked at a fly some 40 years ago through a binocular microscope, and it was scarily like this, but even greater depth of field. It's high time we had such lenses, but this is a very lovely picture, and you deserve your ribbon. All the best for your future ribbons!

Got to vote on this one, but didn't get back to comment. I'd picked this one to win the challenge but had no idea it would score so high. Congratulations!
The colors are just wonderful. They pop out of the creamy smooth bokeh like a flash bulb. The 180 macro is not an easy tool to master. You have really created a masterpiece.
