 I love the Pacific Northwest!!

It was one of those days where it would rain and then the sun would pop out. I had seen a rainbow out our front window the day before, but it came and went very quickly. This day I decided to go for a drive where the scenery was pretty and just hope I'd catch something. And boy did I!

I saw a rainbow out over a field from the main road but there was no place to pull over. The first road I came to happened to be a narrow little dirt road, on one side a small stream and on the other cow pastures. At this point there were power lines in front of a weak rainbow so I kept driving. The rainbow had gone. I drove until I came to a place that I could turn around. There was an old broken down building that I thought I'd check out just for fun as I was getting back in the car, I saw the rainbow over this barn across the stream. What Luck! I filled one card and put in another. I was either going to run out of cards, batteries or rainbow before I would stop shooting. The rainbow was the first to go. I had more then enough to work with or at least I hoped I had.

I turned the car around and headed out. I stopped briefly before I got back on the main road to photograph some of the cows when the rainbow came back out so I have some shots of it over the cow pasture as well. But this was one of my favorites of the day. Chasing rainbows is fun!

I used my circular polarizer for this. It's cropped from a landscape orientation.

- Levels & curves adjustments
- Hue/saturation adjustments
- brightness/contrast adjustments
- slight dodge & burn focusing mainly on the front of the barn for most of it.
- added a very slight vignette
- added a soft filter using Power Retouche
- resized, smart sharpen, added border

Personally I think the quality of this image is much higher than the third place, i love misty feeling this is beautiful

Well lucky you. What a great shot. I went driving around too, all day on Saturday...and was no where nearly as lucky as you. Congrats on a beautiful image. We still need to get together for tea and Dr. Achoo's house. LOL Great shot Jen.

Now this is what I was looking for in this challenge. A good old-fashioned honest to goodness rainbow shot. Not that there is anything wrong with any of the other enteries but it is nice to see a great capture of a rainbow. I love your forground there is a lot of movement with the water and wind but it doesn't detract from the shot at all it just helps to tell the story.

An excellent image in so many ways - well composed and balanced. The layers of water, grasses, hills and clouds really provides nice depth to the image. The cropping to have the rainbow disappear in the upper right grounds the image very well. I like how we can barely see the blue, indigo and violet.
