Kind of double in memoriam. This statue, in memory of Joop den Uyl, was made by Jan Wolkers, a writer, poet, painter and sculptor, who died this week (81). It's standing on a bridge nearby.

Just resized and (normal) sharpened.

forgive my ignorance, but who is JW?

Title dependent (which is OK for PJ - much of it often is) but a bit static in composition. For a human interest story (which I'd assume this would be) you might have wanted to include a human element if possible.

the composition could be better.

Interesting subject. I think for it to work in this category it would need to have less negative space on top and appear less skewed at the base.

Who is JW?

This lacks context, people reacting or place city, country etc.

Who is JW? I suppose if that is a well known person who has had a memorial placed in their honour it may appear in a newspaper. There is quite a bit of free space at the top of the frame. Good Luck.

I am afraid I don't know who JW was...
I couldn't really see this photo accompanying a news article, and I struggle to realy get a connection with the challenge. As a stand alone photo it seems a luittle flat and I get a feeling of accidental composition.

Very simple and well shot, elegant.

I don't know who JW is, but that's not important anyway.
Focus is ok . But exposure or lighting, wb and particularly the composition could be better.
I also think the theme does not work for a front page..don't you agree?
