My humble acceptance speech:

First, I thank God for creating hummingbirds and giving us a fascination with them.

Next, my dudes! awpollard and wizardry for giving me extremely valuable guidance and encouragement. I think that a big part of the credit for this ribbon belongs to them. Umm...the points are all mine though. Sorry.

Finally, my son who shares me with my camera and only got a little angry with me for laying on the ground shooting birds when he wanted to play.

It was simple, lay on the bogey-board under the feeder while your arms go to sleep and wait til you hear humming and hunt around to find where it is coming from and shoot.

The good news is that the bird only peed on me once. The bad news is that I didn't get a shot of it. Perhaps that would have been worth a blue.

Thank you all for voting for my photo. This was a lot of fun. I recommend it at least once.

I can't believe I didn't click on this shot earlier. Really just an amazing picture and incredible catch. It really is stunning, and impressive that you had the perfect shutter speed and aperature going. Well done and big congrats on the Ribb.

suggestion: tripod and a remote? Might help with the arms going to sleep.

Thank you all very much for all of your awesome comments. I have to be careful that I don't let this go to my head.

I am glad to have a clue about the low scores. I don't mind taking a few on the chin for my country. I was happy to serve her in "Desert Storm" and even though she seems to be turning away from God. I would still give my life for the good ol' USA and ALL of the people who live there, regardless of their beliefs.

God Bless you guys. :-)

This is an amazing image and a great idea. The details and wings are simply fantastic the way the background shows through. It probably would have scored even higher without the patriotic feel, imo.

If there was an Image of the Year on DPC, I'd nominate this one for it. Beautiful capture of an exceptional bird in flight.

Truly, GOOD one!

I am a bit torn with the results of this challenge, I think the blue ribbon winner is more aesthetically pleasing, better composed and all that but the timing and moment you caught here is incredible so I am not really sure wich I want to like better, this is very cool and talk about correct shutterspeed and focus, dude, you really nailed that. Congrats on your first ribbon!

What a capture!! Altho I have to say I'm not to keen on the flag at the background, would definetly prefer just the blue sky non the less very nice
