Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Textures II (Basic Editing I)
Camera: Canon PowerShot S400
Location: Bedroom Window
Date: Feb 15, 2004
Aperture: f/2.8
ISO: 50
Shutter: 1 sec
Galleries: Abstract, Digital Art
Date Uploaded: Feb 15, 2004

Placed a blacklight (spot) at the top of the blinds on my window. Otherwise black in the room. Positioned the camera on tripod just right as to achieve this affect. Very close to blinds, pointing upwards. Took about 35 shots to get it right. Cropped, added border. No other editing involved; and no color shifting/changes.

Thank you for the kind words Alice :) I do appreciate the kind and helpful remarks from everyone.

P.S. For those who were wondering why it had to be validated; it didn't; I just asked for an admin note just in case anyone thought it was photoshopped or not really a photo. :]

I gotta admit, I'm a little upset this one didn't do better. The challenge description was "A texture occurs in a photograph because of the interaction between light and a three dimensional surface." I really thought this one went along with that description, and was pretty unique. Oh well, maybe next time.

very interesting way to use blinds. I like the color and the way it fades out. Nice job!

I don't really feel a lot of 'Texture' in this shot. I like the infinity angle and the contrasting blue and black.

nice and abstract. think it needs something else though.

Where's the texture? All I see is black and blue.

The abstract of the lines that leads your eyes from the bottom of the picture makes for an interesting composition. Unfortunately the lighting make it almost painful to look at it too long. The colors are very bright. Redoing in B&W or toning down and make the colors not so vibrant would help to make the pleasing composition a lot better. "8"

cool rhythmic composition: really like the regression of this. Some sense of metallic smoothness, but it's really much more about that regression than about the sutfaces. Like it, but have reservations about it for this particular challenge.

I wonder why your image had to be validated? It's a nice take on the Challenge, lovely colors and good seeing. Probably venetian blinds or house siding. Possibly a blue filter... It doesn't matter, it's terrific photography and an exciting visual as well. Good! (also: One of those rare incidences where the border works well with the picture. .. I'm not against borders, they just ought to work!) 9

Very cool image. Personally, I see more pattern than texture, though. Still well above average.

Light and a 3dimensional surface. This is the first photo yet that has really screamed that to me. A lot of photos are showing texture, and I give them that, but this one shows it by the challenge description. Very nice shot. Love the depth and the colors. quite hard to look at, but I think that's what makes me love it even more. really great for the challenge, and nicely done. One of my favorites so far. ~Heather~

Pretty colors and abstract idea with the lines. Weak presentation of texture I think.

Really like this photo, I took one just like it but with an orange not a blue.

Well executes shot. However I get more "Pattern" than "Texture" out of this image. Good luck.
