Shot while on a business trip in Ireland. It was a quick rain shower in the afternoon and many people were not ready for the rain. I liked the feel of this small road/ alley and the guys walking down it all huddled over.

Shot in JPEG on my 2mpix p&s. Adjusted levels, hue/saturation to create sepia. Performed noise ninja to increase USM and contrast and smooth a bit. Burned clock tower in background and street. Cropped and rotated. Dodged lines of light throughout image, dodged faces and jackets in foreground. Save for web. Added USM at small radius and USM at large radius. Save.

I am not sure this is DPC friendly - likely a 5.5 shot

Post challenge: Extremely happy with the comments and response to this image. Even more excited to get a 6+ on my old 2mpixel P&S.

Here is the original edit I had planned on entering, but at the eleventh hour decided that the sky looked "too blown out".

in some ways I think the entry is a bit more moody and may have come off better, even if it isn't as balanced an image

Peter, I don't know how I missed this but I LOVE it. What a lot of mood you captured here! I'm adding it into faves.

Peter, I love this photograph which almost has a feel of the late 70's to it. Moody and atmospheric and simply remarkable given the equipment you were using. Love the lustrous sepia tones

congrats Peter! even got a fave with this one. I really liked the feel in this image. not bad for a 2MP camera!! I'm split as to whether I like your outtake or not. I prefer the blown sky, but I also like what you've done with the burning of the street in the entered version.

Ooooh. . .I love this! I'm surprised that this didn't score much higher. It has such a DPC-friendly Wow look to it!

Glad to see this did much better than you expected. GREAT moodiness and solitude, despite the number of people in the image.

excellent tone and composition. love the lines, both intentional and unintentional...like the two streams of water going into the drain that lead my eyes right to the foreground subjects and all the lines of water that carry my eyes down the street and past the background subjects. really a brilliant image. very nice work!

This photo keeps sneaking up on me. Something about the highlights and the engaging composition seems to say more than the people themselves.

Somber. First word that comes to mind. They look like they're leaving a funeral. Nicely done.

This nicely conveys cold and wet in a place that has seen generations of cold, wet people walk by. Perspective and lines are very nice.

Good timing here. I like the duotine here but I also think this would look good in b&w.

The top and bottom seem unbalanced, brighter on the bottom than on the top, it draws the eyes up to the steeple and the gray sky

Beautiful candid. However, the processing is too much IMO. It looks over noise-ninjaed (or similar), and also maybe too much USM? A picture like this needs to have more natural detail. Also, the sky looks blueish/gray (not a duotone). -4

Gorgeous capture, I especially like the sharpness of it.

Back to comment (voted yesterday). Cool unusual shot. Well composed - interesting subject matter - and the shot just has a great "feel" to it. The color tone of the sky confuses me since it doesn't seem to match the other tones. Gave this an 8.

I like street pictures... this is a little claustrophobic.

I like the chilly nature of this - almost think it would be more effective in a blue tone to emphasize that chill. Looks like the sky was burned in a bit (or at least seems at odds with the tones of the rest of the picture) - I prefer them blown over burned but most people do not.

great shot. really like all the textures and the tones. You might get penalized by the blue on the sky but I personally think it adds tot he picture. good luck.

NICE!!!! I might back off the tones a smidge to make it a little more gray, but I love the light, composition and focus.
