loomed up and surprised me in the woods

Thanks to all who have expressed interest in the processing. The original is actually pretty well exposed and it's awful busy with all those branches - - so to simplify and spookify it, I used a combination of noise reduction, glow actions and exclusion blending. I will try to post more detailed steps within the next week.

Incidentally, this building is part of the defunct Rutherford Stuyvesant estate, presumably the carriage house as the mansion burned to the ground in 1959. It sits in the woods and is quite unseen unless you brave the briars and bears. I often take pictures of the entrance gate to the estate,

Nice use of glow actions - it looks so natural, like it's just a dim, misty morning.

I can see how easily this house blends into it’s surroundings, even in winter. I would like to add to the how did you do this voice.

I just saw this last night and didn't realize it was yours. Great shot. I gave this a 7.

Colleen, this is gorgeous! Deserved much higher IMO. So moody and the line created by the hanging vine/branch thingee is very cool.

This was an actual, out loud "wow" as I went through the thumbs for this challenge. You do realize, however, there's no contrast, the trees look fake in the front, it's probably DNMC, and who knows what else. And wow. What a shot!

Spookiness is a bit marred by the two-toned building, but overall a very evocative image. Looking forward to seeing the details of your technique.

Is a nice shot, makes me want to head to the mountains. The (Shadows and Highlights adjustment) on the trunks of the trees in the snow, makes them seem out of place.

Sorry, but your post processing doesn't do much for me. Way too soft and very little contrast.

Wow...what a great shot. It's just a little underexposed though. Still, very stunning.
