I think this is basically lovely, but there are some things about it that keep it from rising to the top aesthetic plateau. In no particular order, they are:

1. The awkward crop of the leftmost trunk where it goes in and out of the frame.

2. The unfortunate prominence of the lamp post.

3. The way the people are all clumped in the mid-distance. If the nearest figure were 20 feet closer to us it would work better for me.

4. The chromatic fringing on the branches. I'm not sure why you didn't just desat this and get rid of that.

Still and all, a very evocative image.

Last couple of weeks in December I kept seeing this low winter sun on trees lightly frosted with snow (or frost), but never had the camera handy.

Once I had some free time the sun went in for the duration, natch.

Then one day there it was doing its thing, so I mounted and expedition - tripod, camera, clothes, tram to station, train up the hill...

But no, when I got to the train station the sun had clocked off again. Last day of challenge so I nipped into the local park and took a fair series of shots...

This was the first one.

Peter,
Congrats on a very nice standing. IMO it should be even higher ... I was one of your 10s. And I stand by my vote.
Beautiful.

This shot is fantastic. I love the vertical everything and the contrast is great.

Not quite as sharp as I would like to see it. Perhaps too much contrast. Would like to see more gray tones

Love it. Love the high contrast, love the lines, love the snowy winter. Like the people walking in the distance. Like the lamp post. Just needs a little green and red wreath on the lamp to be the perfect Christmas card. 10

This appears to be a natural b/w, which is very cool.

Too much contrast IMO and over sharpened.Shot a little too plain now if you had a human element ina red winter jacket in the image would have change the entire perspective of the image - 6

Great interpretation, well executed - would have loved a little detail in the white forground.

Truly an excellent example where perspective makes the photo. I'm quite fond of the subject matter - it's well titled - and the toning and the highish contrast. Lovely shot - well seen, well captured.
