I love pictures that have a story behind them. I found this waterfall after seeing a most excellent shot by a local photog named Darren White. He did not name the fall so I had to do a large amount of sleuthing to find it. Eventually I figured it out and headed there one afternoon this week. It is out in the middle of nowhere at the edge of the Gifford Pinchot park. To get this perspective with these rocks, you need to wade to a small shallow in the middle of the river. The problem is there is a narrow, but knee deep channel you need to cross to get there. Because I didn't want to drive home in sopping clothes, I simply took my jeans off, hitched my long johns up to my thighs, put on flip flops I had brought, and waded out. So basically I was taking pictures for 10-15 minutes in the middle of the river in my underwear. My feet, naturally, went numb in about 30 seconds. I promise I was really careful with the camera. I made a trip out and back with nothing to make sure there weren't any tricky spots. Then I went out with the camera firmly wound around one hand (ready to be thrust into the air if I slipped) and used my tripod as a walking stick in the other for extra stability. It worked out fine. :)

PP is typical. This is not an HDR shot and I hope it comes in the Top 10 so as to show HDR is not a requirement under the new rulesets.

Now Doc, you know I have first call on these sort of shots ;-)
To be honest I'd have been proud to take this image, it is simply beautiful. The colours in those rocks and the blue/green water is what really makes it. Most of the waterfalls around here are from peaty moorland and tend to be 'tea' coloured so its nice to see something different.

Never got round to tasking one myself, I was in San Antonio and there's only the plastic riverwalk which was never going to compete against an image of this quality.

Congrats my friend, well done.

HDR constitutes my least favourite images at DPC. Hence, I am happy to see that you do not have to resort to it to gain good exposure and colours, as you managed in this fine photo. It was well worth the trip, ribbon or not...

Congrats on the Red, Doc! I love the fact that this image combines the best of both worlds - the awesome water-flow & mist of the falls, along with the great texture in the foreground rocks.

The foreground rocks really add a lot to this scene. Foreground water retains a bit of texture in the flow, too, which I personally prefer. Colors are not overdone and the composition is very nice.

The rocks in the foreground are awesome. I don't care for the way the falls fit into the upper left area. Maybe a tighter crop up there, but then you would lose some of those great rocks as well. I'm being excessively picky, there, because this is a great shot.

I'd swear this is somewhere in Oregon. The foreground rocks really balance the scene and provide interest. Not sure about the pixel border....

I wish you would have just cropped to the rocks. To me, that is the strength of the photo and would stand better on its own. In any case, a nice shot.

Love the colors in your shot, just the right composition. A great river, falls shot. After looking more, I do like your choice of border, it adds a nice frame and seperates you from the rest. Nice work.
