This would've been even better if the wings weren't obstructed by the upper tree branch. On my dark monitor everything looks dark, many times prints look excellent.
I've seen sculptures of similar poses in full color viewed from the front.

I miss this on your profile. It is an excellent shot that I like more each time I see it.

thankyou leo .. i just love your compliments ...
and this bird on your profile page is incredible ..
brilliant photograph and love your process ..
makes me think of edgar allen poe for some strange reason ... haunted .. love how i can just see a glimpse of the bird's face and the excellent lines of his wings .. the branches create a wonderful frame ....
AWESOME .. :)
OMG .. i just looked at the score .. WOTTHA .. !!!
sheeeeeeeeeesh .. who are those ppl ?? .. the voters i mean .. it is becoming increasingly obvious that 49+65+38+8+3 (i cant be bothered adding it up) are artistically dead .. :)

Holy crap man, this is incredible. Can't believe I missed this in the challenge. You should be so proud of this, which I am assuming you are as its on your front page. :P Everything about this works. The angle, the view, the takeoff, the composition, love the B&W. It honestly looks like it could be a cover to a book. Congrats on a great capture.

Excellent. The unique shape of the bird you've captured is very intriguing. Well done!

Fret not the score. There are a few of us out there who enjoy "seeing" the picture, not just rating the picture - you'll see comments from a few of those below. Shots like this are meant for a selective audience, not the DPC audience in total. If you're going to enter something like this, you live for the rare but delightfully appreciated viewers who "get it" or at least take the time to see something in it, even if it isn't what you intended. And everyone sees things differently - depends on frame of reference, frame of mind, likes and dislikes. (You should see my personal top ten list in most challenges - nary a color to be found anywhere!) At any rate, don't sweat the score. Enjoy what you've accomplished for yourself and revel in those that saw what you intended. (And remind me of all of this the next time I'm complaining about low scores, too!)

Nice graphic shot, the legs reaching towards the branch, the silhouttes of the wings and branches. I think this one is going to get overlooked. Bumping you to a 7

7 - Nice image/'moment'. Good composition and the tones work well. Not sure on the 'vignette' at the edge of the frame, but your call.

very underxposed and too much contrast.

Fantastic capture, great timing. I would have probably given it a bit more contrast, and I don't like the fading black/gray border thing, but overall it's really captivating.

Oh oh oh!! This is THE ONE!!!!!!!! Wow i don't know where to start... first off this has to be one of the most original shots for the challenge, LOVING how you got the bird from the back... the wings are amazingly symetric (hope im usin the right word lol) the lil legs just leaving the branch, not only shoes motion but its the part that completes the photo for the eyes to understand its a bird! To top it off the branches have a nice balance in them as well curvacious on the top and the bottom one, the black and white conversion is beyond perfect too! Wow I really am in love with this shot!!

Arghhhh I hope other can see it what I see, you must know how they are... lol sorry I got a lil to excited!

BEST OF LUCK!!

Outstanding capture - I love the natural framing and the sense of impending doom for some small critter out there.

I like the simplicity of the shapes. It gives it a rawness that lends itself well to conveying an animal (basic) instinct that is suggested here.
