This little owl lives at the National Zoo. I spent a very pleasant couple of hours in the bird house and watching various ducks outside. So I'm glad this challenge came along!

Wasn't quite sure how to edit it. The light was very flat, so it took some doing to separate the owl from the background, even with a shallow DOF.

Hey, I've got a shot of that guy too! I remember him as a easy subject - he just perched and stared bug-eyed at me, took several moments to determine he was actually breathing. A beautiful, tidy-looking bird. You did a good job getting contrast out of that indoor lighting.

Jeffrey, great finish with this! You really did a great job editing - he just pops - and look at that beautiful catchlight :-) PS - looks like Steve got whomped in the head-to-head :-)

Congrats on the top 20 and having this on your front page. Such nice detail through out, especially in the eyes and feathers. Great Shot.

Lovely and sharp - but perhaps cropped a little too close ?

Very nice, cloud have been to the right a tad more leaving room in front of the bird. But all technicals are very good. Thanks, I needed to see a good shot.

Being advanced editing I think I might have tried to clone out the band on the right leg. Otherwise this is a great capture.

I really want to say that that bird is alive, but it's foot looks like it is floating in the air. No one said it had to be a live bird though- right? (OR- it is so perfect, that its hard to comprehend how real it is!!LOL) Nice crisp focus, good background and composition. Excellent!

Love those eyes! I find the crop a touch too tight on the left side. And a little noise visible on his feathers, though it is not an objectionable amount. It stands out mostly because the background is so smooth that I suspect you did some noise reduction there, but did not do it on the bird in order to keep detail.

You chose a very good title! He shows very well - excellent detail, excellent light. Listening to Catherine-the-queen-of-birds paid off well! (Comment only, no vote.)

What a cute owl! A very good photo. Did you blur the background or is that natural DOF? Whatever it is, the bird stands out nicely.

very good focus. like the little reflection in the eye, But I'm not sure about the crop: is it too centered or a tad too much on left... can't say what is it. Anyway: 8 points!
