Female Anna's hummingbird, from my backyard.

Thanks for the votes and comments! It was a fun week!

The setup is the same as this, except for a few minor lighting changes. I've been working regularly on trying to improve my hummingbird shots, so you'll probably see one or two more before I move on to something else.

Congratulations on 5th place. It's amazing you stopped a hummingbird's wings at 1/180 second.

Quite an accomplishment to stop motion on the wings.

One of the top shots in the challenge. Lovely capture, you've stopped the motion completely, no mean feat with a humming bird. Well done.

Gotta be a fast shutter speed to catch those wings. Shame about that dark branch in the background

8 - Very nice. 'If only' super smooth/no grain, but no big deal, and could be just as you wish it. Wonder about a variation in composition though, something to give it an edge.

Beautiful freeze frame. Looks like it was done with a flash. I need to learn how to do this. 9

Perfect DOF. Love your negative space created by the blurred background. Excellent shot.

Very nice, a little noisy but other than that this is awesome. colors, contrast, composition are all good. Just too much grain.

It's hard to deny a fascination of this tiny frozen moment in time. It looks naturally unnatural, so to speak.

Love the pose/capture. I've never seen a hummingbird before and I can imagine they are hard to capture in flight.

Perfect lighting and exposure. I like the little bit of green in the background and the overall softness of it to emphasize the clarity of the bird. And you got eye contact. It doesn't get much better than that.

Totally amazing capture, the hummingbird beats its wings 60-75 beats a second. They are also the only bird that can fly backwards. I have no idea how you did this so perfectly. A perfect 10 just on technicality!
