Challenge: Free Study 2008-01 (Advanced Editing VI ("Time Lapse"))
Collection: 2008 - CHALLENGES
Camera: Canon EOS-400D Rebel XTi
Lens: Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro
Location: on the firetrail near where i live
Date: Jan 12, 2008
Aperture: f6.3
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/320
Galleries: Macro, Insects, etc
Date Uploaded: Jan 29, 2008

the only reason i entered this free study was in an attempt to rectify the damage done to my overall average from a very bad photograph i put in the bird challenge in a moment of total insanity .. i was hoping for more than 6.2 on this ..
its one of the photographs i might have used for the yellow challenge but decided against this one because in a basic edit i couldnt remove the noise and grain or bring out the details properly .. this is how it looked after the basic edit for the yellow challenge ..

Amazing and fantastic! It looks like it has an enormous mouth almost as big as its head. Really fascinating.

Roz - these are simply magnificent images . .

As I now have a Macro lens I must try to capture some of these when they are about (currently wrong time of the year).

Keep up the good work :- )

eta - 10th out of 426 is also pretty impressive !! or maybe a fair reflection of just how good these are ;- )

I am not a fan of bug pics lol. They just creep me out. And this one does too - but only because of the clarity and focus. It is so real! I love the balance of orange and yellow in this pic. Congrats on the top 10 in a FS!

Yay! Top Ten in FS!! Glad this made up for the - ahem - bird photo. This is the most awesome catch. Go to National Geographic and look around on their site for a way to submit incredible nature photos. I mean - I'm pretty sure that NONE of us have ever seen a dragonfly eat a fly. I didn't even know that flies were on their menu. In any case - CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Roz baby, I knew this had to be yours. It comes on the heals of your last dragonfly and it to is fantastic. I gave it a 10 and my boys said it should get even more.

Way to go on the top 10 score.

MAX!

Very precisely focused, the details are awesome! The colors and the smooth bokeh make the photograph very powerful. If I have to find something to improve...mmmh...I would be curious what a wider perpective of the animal could have done. But with such a shallow DOF you probably have chosen the right composition.

8 - Excellent capture. 'If only' a fraction more light on the underside(s).
