we went to a place near shell harbour which is south of sydney yesterday specifically to take photographs ... YAY !!! ..
this is one pelican who had been perched on a pillon for ages while i took his photograph .. then he took off .
i've combined three photographs taken one after the other to make this composite ..

the sequence is in the order it was taken, but looking at it now in dpc i'm seeing that he's lower to the water in the second shot .. he must'v dropped down a bit after take-off .. he was very plump .. !!

i've also used goodman's texture .. thankyou lesley .. :)

this is before he took off ..

Gorgeous texture & composition!

(did you deliberately scare them to make them fly?)

That's one big bug :-)

Haunting and uplifting both. There is a sad quality about pelicans for me that is perfectly captured in this shot. Would love to know how you did the border...

Actually all Pelicans do that, most birds do even; the rise on the downstroke of the wings, and sink on the upstroke. They just rise more than they sink, and end up airborne :-)

Cool composite.

This is a great progression - love the strong contrast, and the reflections, and that shore being so far off at the top, really makes this shot nice and expansive, like the flight itself.

Wow, could be an early experiment in photography, perhaps in the days of Man Ray.
Beautifully done, Roz. glad to see it.

LOL!!! I'm envisioning this pelican trying to get his butt up in the air... :o)

Beautiful image, Roz! Love the tones and the sequence of events. Hope you had a great time going on a 'hunting' trip. And pelicans!! I envy you - LOVE pelicans. They are the best models. Hope we see more of them from you.
