I first shot this view of the Washington Monument in Dec. '06. I've been looking for a good challenge to try it out, and this seems to fit.

The problem with a normal view of the Washington Monument is that it dominates the skyline. So without some stunning clouds in the sky, there's nothing to balance it out.

To me, tilting it adds some visual interest.

This shot features the brown DC night sky, which I'm getting used to seeing.

Here's the original shot:

WOW!!! I really like the composition on this one! When I first looked at the thumbnail of it, it just seemed like an X, but when I saw that you said Washington Monument, I realised what it was. Way to go!

Very creative use of the crop. The brown sky looks better than the black in my opinion. Great capture.

I had to comment on this image once more because I am very impressed with it. Shame on the dickweeds who were compelled to vote 5 or lower on this shot for whatever ridiculous reasoning takes up space in their tiny minds. By voting so low on a clearly talented capture, you abuse the privilege and your obligation to be both objective and realistic in your voting of other peoples fine photographic works. I gave this shot a 9 during the voting period because it has a wonderful composition, very good detail & clarity, and met the challenge criteria.

Nice angle here. And I wouldn't say I'm exactly whoopin' ya at trivia...(Just saw your comment on my December self-portrait). Nice to meet you too. I see you also did a three-headed self-portrait.

Congrats! You mentioned the "brown" sky. Try tungsten white balance some time for city shots at night.
I like it just as you posted it. The X angle works.

You're making me tilt my head and that is most unkind. The tilt makes the most of the available space, granted, and the reflections are pretty darned cool ... well, I suppose if I didn't keep trying to look at it with my eyes parallel to the horizon I wouldn't be feeling so askew right now, so perhaps it is not entirely your fault ;-)

Nice job.

It's amazing how a little change, like a rotation, can throw a viewer so far away... all that would look familiar and I wouldn't spend more than a microsecond on, now looks new and interesting...

A couple of extra points for this original idea.

This looks like something levyj would shoot, but this is way better than I would expect from him. Don't let anyone know but I think most of his work is doo doo. I just like to amuse him. Great angle btw.
