Location: Straumur, Iceland

I realy take pictures for challenges these days but when I saw this challenge I knew excactly where to go and what to shoot: Straumur art center in my hometown of Hafnarfjörður. I have used this before in a free study:

My first entry with my new Canon EF-S 10-22mm lens. As a landscape photographer I just love this lens.

At first I thought this shot was a failure. I had used a GND filter on a Cokin filter holder. At 10mm the lens actually captures the holder it self and it also creates alot of vignetting. But after looking at it in my PC i realized that if I croped out the filterholder the vignetting was helping this image by focusing the viewer towards the building and the reflection.

Thanks alot for the constructive comments.

I love looking at this shot. The clean feel of the blues and the white, the warm feel of the window lights, the serene setting and the perfect presentation all come together in a stunning shot. Congratulations.

Greetings from the Critique Club!

Well, how much can I really say about a shot that got 2nd place and 11 favorites that hasn't already been said in 40 comments?

It was nice to read your comments, and your experience with the new lens and filters. I'm glad you saw the positives in this shot, and worked to save it after thinking it was no good.

So, lets see if I can find anything I would have changed with this shot, since we already know a lot of the positive aspects from reading all of the other comments. First, comparing the last shot in the free study to this one, one of the things that stands out to me with this shot is the lights in the windows. They give a warm life to this shot in the cold environment. I find the bright spot in the clouds a bit harsh, compared to the rest of the shot, but at the same time the light contrasts the dark shadow under the rock nicely. Lastly, there is a reflection or something in the water down at the bottom. Maybe finding a way to get rid of that, or even cropping the shot a bit at the bottom (would put the horizon not quite centered too which could be nice) would be an option?

Anyway, it's a fantastic shot. Congrats on your 2nd place finish! Well deserved!

Hope this was helpful in some way. Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Mögnuð mynd og verðskuldaður borði. Ég sem hélt að Straumur væri fullmyndaður, það væri erfitt að toppa fyrri myndir af gamla húsinu og speglun þess í tjörninni... en þér tókst það afburða vel. Til hamingju.

Frábær mynd, til hamingju með hana. Finnst flott að sjá tvær hliðar á húsinu og það að það skuli vera kveikt ljós setur punktinn yfir i-ið.

beautiful. I like the yellow windows, they add a nice touch of color. my only nit-pick is that the horizon is too centered. I would have liked it more on a third line. Maybe crop some of the foreground out.
