Thanks guys. I only entered because I heard through the grapevine that Jorge (i.e. De Sousa) might enter this challenge so that got me motivated. Instead I find out he didn't enter (lucky me) but Scalvert did so that makes up for it. :)

Anyway, as for the shot, it's basically a reshoot of this which I did a while back for Refraction of Light challenge. In that one I used a light to create the rocks but it didn't do as well, so I tried a more literal approach this time.

As for the setup it's pretty straight forward. I used a flashlight to paint the light (i.e. long exposure with the flashlight snooted to prevent unwanted light spill/reflections). The liquid is just apple juice. As for the PP I did the usual (i.e. some smoothing, dodge/burn, etc). I also converted the RAW using tungsten white balance to give it that blue hue.

You know, I actually thought this might be De Sousa when I first saw it. :) Really nice shot and interpretation of the challenge - I especially like the softness of the surrounding blue (I guess that is due to the "smoothing" you mention?). Thanks for describing your technique!

Yes. I prefocused the shot and then turned out the lights.

Yeh, failed the entry for this challenge cause my "Very Special" model failed the session shot. I'm sure I would be loosing against this perfect shot even if I could shot my idea. A blue shot usually win the blue ribbon. My shot was projected to be warm brown :(
Congrats Mr. Toro, you already show us that you can win as many times as you want.

I've been Yanko'd! Hehe... this one certainly stood out from the pack. Very clean, graphic and a good concept. How can you go wrong? The smoothness looked like noise reduction gone wild, but it makes sense if you painted with light. Still, I thought at best this would score a 6.5... ;-P

1... there is a "1" for this photo... It's driving me crazy... I want to know, really really know why, and who. Just once, to know why. It's like someone just clicking randomly to voting, or loosing his or her mind.

ARGH...

This is a very NICE PHOTO. Say otherwise, you are nutz.

I want to love this photo -- the angle is great -- but if this angle were real, the liquid in the glass would still be level. So the result just ends up magnifying the editing job!
