Challenge: Parallel Lines (Basic Editing I)
Camera: Canon EOS-300D Rebel
Lens: Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO Macro Super II for Canon
Location: Downtown, Montreal, Qc
Date: Mar 12, 2004
Aperture: F 8.0
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/320 sec
Galleries: Abstract, Architecture
Date Uploaded: Mar 16, 2004

Inspired by my STOP LIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY, this is a shot, taken from my driver's seat in my car, while sitting at a red light. My camera was armed with my Sigma 70-300mm F4.0-5.6 APO SM II. Taken at 100mm. I was just driving around downtown during my lunch hour, looking for parallel lines.

It is the Chateau Champlain Hotel in Montreal. The lines do not appear to be parallel, but that is because of the perspective on the building, or parallax distortion. Trust me. They are in fact parallel.

Post processing (PS7): rotate, crop, levels, USM, sepia, resize and border.

Great toning, looks very bronze! The repetetive pattern is good, but the few windows that are open break up the pattern nicely. It has a very metal look, doesnt even look like windows. Nicely captured!

The trouble with taking a picture from a low angle is that the perspective refuses to co-operate, and insists on diminishing the image as it goes up. Consequently the subjhect, which fits so nicely at the bottlom of the picture starts to leave the sides and almost give the picture he impression of widening at the top. It is a very good subject however.

nice idea...I like the way the windows vary with the drapes being open in some, closed in others...I don't think you need a border on this

Very interesting! I like it, but would probably have cut off a bit on the right side. I know it isn't straight, but it would be a little more pleasing in my opinion.

minor detail - the border may distract the eye slightly because they are not parallel with the lines in the photograph, however having everything parallel might have made the photograph flat and monotonous. In any case, great picture, the faded tone is really nice

Very effective shot. An unusual choice, leaving the rotation of the image on a slight angle, but it looks great

Nice choice. I like that it's not about completely straight parallel lines.

What a cool picture. Love the feeling. The lines make the shot.

Beautiful photo. The border detracts from it.
