Not actually MY leopard gecko, but its still someones pet. i hope to eventually get a chameleon. them things are cool
i really like this photo and it was a fluke that i actually got a good photo of it because i was falling forward trying to balance myself and i literally fell into focus. This is my buddy Will's gecko, hes got like 5 of them
Its lit with 1 580ex II bounced off the ceiling/wall
minimal editing
raw conversion
i selected the background with the feathered lasso tool and increased the saturation a tad to give it just a little more color. i also increased the blues/purples/magentas a lot to make the dots that weren't black or yellowish pop out of the photo just a little more.

Wow, nice shot. I am truly surprised this didn't score higher.

Compositionally, you have filled the frame nicely and it feels well balanced. Technically, it is excellently (is that a word) focused and the details on the "skin" and in the eye is tremendous. Perhaps the slight blur on the end of the nose put some people off, but to me, it just helps to reinforce how great the focus is on the eye.

The *only* thing that disconcerts me (other than the fact that I thought it was a snake at first) is the "mismatch" of colors in the background. The purplish hues contrast nicely with the yellow. The "flesh tones' for lack of a better word, just don't "match" to me for some reason.

Still, though, very nice shot!

Wow I wish the nose was more in focus. I like the eye, and the color.

Ah, here's our ribbon winner. Nothing to say, this picture can't be improved and there's nothing bad about it. Perfection.

The patterns in the eye are rather fascinating. Like some sort of fancy embroidery stitch. Like the detail; think a bit more DOF would have gotten the whole head. Compositionally the eye ended up in the top middle; I would play with some different crops and angles to get it closer to a ROT intersection, but that's me. Still a striking shot.

You've given the snake a mennacing look in the photo characteristic of its nature. Love the detail in the eye and the scales. Great focus and DOF. Not so sure I like the yellow and blue background ... maybe one or the other would be better, but then what do I know? All in all, well done!

Wow, that's pretty neat. I've had snakes but never noticed the pebbly structure. A touch more depth fo field would have been nice.
