This is Guinness my yellow lab. I have a photo of him much like this that I took a long time ago when I first got my 20D. It actually is the first photo I ever took with that camera and is one of my all time favorite photos. I deceided to redo the shot but with a fisheye to really distort how long his nose is. The lighting was pretty bad and the weather sucked so I didn't get exactly what I wanted and had to use a high ISO and low apature resulting in a smaller DOF then I wanted. I am still happy how it turned out but mostly b/c I love the big goof. I feel it does nook a bit noisey in spots but I had to push the PP b/c of lighting issues. Hopeing for at least a 6 but I could see some not liking the perspective much and it going lower.

Post Challenge:
Thanks for the votes and nice comments. He is a great buddy of mine and he always come to the fence and pushes it open with his nose when I'm on the other side. Here is the original taken about two years ago

When is a beloved dog not a goof? That's what makes them fun to have around.

I like this better than your first one. This looks really good in black and white. Those baby eyes give him a sweet puppy dog look in this photo. I like seeing the detail and textures on his nose and mouth too.

What a great picture of a good friend. Love the look in his eyes, and the textures and shades of gray are great.

Love how his eyes are peering at me from the bright beyond. Love the BW treatment with high contrast. And a dog snout is always adorable.

Great detail. Great DOF. Great contrast. Great composition. Only nitpick (and really is a very minor nitpick) is that a slightly deeper DOF to get the boards fully in focus would have been the clincher.

Ha! Great photo. It instantly brings a smile to my face. How dare you leave Guinness behind! Your fisheye was a perfect choice of lens for this shot...I like the perspective.

That's amazing you were able to capture nearly the same shot two years later. I like how you can see Guiness a bit better in this version, but he seems to blend in with the background a bit.

Oh man! I am so happy to see that little face here again. I gave it a 9 too by the way. It grabbed my heart the minute I saw it.

But here in our black and white challenge -- I'm giving it a 10!!!

Nice one :) my first thought was I'd liked to have seen some more detail in the fence then I read your comment and realised it was for Pet Portrait III so a different slant on things. Great capture of a great 'friend' however, looks like the same bit of fence as last years shot? and do prefer Guinness pushing his nose through it - so nosey lol.

oh, imho the dof here is spot on so don't worry about pushing things

i really like the DOF, being only his nose in focus. the details in the grain of the wood is cool too, but that might end up taking away from the image.

You got a 9 from me - it was definitely one of my favorites - a great way to show off personality!

The perspective gives it a nice touch of humor. Great detail. And I like that the nose and eyes really pop, while the rest of the dog kinda fades into the background.

I like Guiness...the dog. Don't care much for the beer. Too rich for me. I like what you've captured here. It has that subtle dog humor thing going. I love when you see their limited scope come to life. "Inside"..."Outside"..."Mmmm Chew Toy"... "we're going for a car ride, happy dance"

Gotta love'em

Great photo. B&W, the tones, and the shallow DOF work really well. The barrel distortion stood out as soon as I looked at this though. Could be fixed in PS. 8

Nice framing used by the, what seems to be, fence - this gives him a sense of personification that is lacking in some of the other photos. Good job!
