If you must point out the obvious, YES, I have done it before and I´ll do it again, so sue me :) Just want to submit my first 1Ds photo since I blew the last week open challenges (long story) and had this lying around, figured I´d make this fit the challenge.

The model is Aníta, I have used her for a challenge before. We are doing a sesonal series where we go to Þingvellir for each shot and I photograph her standing in the same spot for all 4 seasons, now we were obviously doing winter.

Click here if you want to see others from this series, have only posted autumn so far but will post the winter shot soon.

When we were driving back, I liked the light and that mountain at the end of the road so I asked her to walk three times back and forth real quickly on that road, like she was on a catwalk, while I snapped away. This was not shot with this challenge in mind but I thought what the heck, I always liked Led Zeppelin and I was told that Immigrant Song was written about Iceland, at least it was on an album that was after a legendary concert they had here in Reykjavik (was at least legendary to us Icelanders).

Tsk, that was easy! I just asked really nicely and then showed her the photo of me in my 52nd week PAW last year and just said "be glad I am not having you do this butt nekkid and stop complaining" and that was it :)

You and the other one with this title popped this song into my head for days - not so bad, it is a classic. I knew this was yours - an excellent image in itself which did fit in with a 'modern day' take on the song, coupled with your title, it worked quite well (I gave it a 6) - I guess I wanted to see something 'warlike', a Viking maybe, to match the 'mythical' and 'hard' lyrics and music. Still this grew on me and I could imagine her walking down that 'icey road' to this song. This image does have the 'drama'. Just read your notes, here:

"Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming!

On we sweep with threshing oar, Our only goal will be the western shore.

Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
How soft your fields so green, can whisper tales of gore,
Of how we calmed the tides of war. We are your overlords.

On we sweep with threshing oar, Our only goal will be the western shore.

So now you'd better stop and rebuild all your ruins,
For peace and trust can win the day despite of all your losing. "

According to Wikipedia, Immigrant Song was dedicated to Leifr Eiríksson.

Have I said it before? You are one heck of a great photographer! That 85mm 1.2 makes me jealous! Great finish...I thought this would be in the top 3

Great shot. Love the backdrop, really makes your model stand out, sort of 3D like.

excellent! never get tired of these & the way that lens renders a scene (canon 85mm f/1.2?). If there's one piece of glass I covet, it'd be that one...

Interesting. Well photographed. When I look at her feet I feel cold. Is that snow on her toes?

Larus, you do realize that almost everyone is going to recognize you, right? Absolutely stunning portrait. everything is perfect except her right hand feels a bit unnatural/uncomfortable. although in this cold temperature, you can only admire model's ability to deliver this pose in these clothes.

She seems so out of place dressed that way in that environment. Makes it feel very contrived.

I do like how the color tones work together...blue and black fit together nicely.

I like the attitude you've captured in this image- it's not sassy, not reserved but it has a nice confidence to it. I love how her eyes match her surroundings, giving her a real sense of belonging. The only things I'm unsure about are the bold border, and the uneven vignetting. It looks great at the bottom, giving a nice transition into the contrasting border, but without the vignetting at the top to match it, it makes it look like an accident.

I think I'll bump this to a 7.

She's a little underdressed for the ice and snow! And seems strangely disconnected from the background. Great shot overall, though, and the lyric is from one of my more favorite LZ songs.

O.K. interpretation, and cool picture. But "Immigrant Song" is pretty fierce and very dramatic, blasting. She's kinda pretty, certainly not fierce, looks more like she's on the runway.

Lovely model, great pose, the DOF really works well. On my first pass I rated this a 7 but when I came through on my second pass to comment I couldn't really find anything I would change, so I'm bumping my score up.

Looks like another Larus portrait. I would guess an 85mm f/1.2 lens. Nice.
