Challenge: Pollution (Basic Editing)
Camera: Canon EOS-5D
Lens: Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L USM II
Location: Iceland
Date: Mar 10, 2008
Aperture: f11
ISO: 500
Shutter: 1/160
Galleries: Landscape, Water
Date Uploaded: Mar 11, 2008

Converted in Camera Raw and adjusted in PhotoShop CS3 with these tools: Shadow/highlight, rotate, crop, curves, brightness/contrast, hue/saturation, NoiseNinja and USM.

I have to tell you the truth, this is not a real pollution because this is a geothermal power plant. All you see from the chimneys is just hot steam from the earth.

I love the dullness in the colour. It enhances the mood.

Bragi, this is so amazing! It looks so dramatic and turbulent! Congratulations on another front page finish :)

If the smoke in the left upper end was not there this will be an excellent piece of work.... so sad this topic is in Basic editing.....

The picture is a bit dark, which distracts you from seeing it. The reflection in the water is very nicely done though.

excellent job capturing the "translucent" smoke. addition of reflection was a very good touch. why did not you try increasing the saturation? did you want to keep the mood of the photo a bit rough/dirty, instead of pretty, to fit the theme more appropriately?

Great photo. I like the way the haze cloud on the left seems to be sort of creeping up on the more serene right side of the picture. Well done.

you make the pollution look beautiful...
now that i think of it, is that a good thing? heh

This is a great photograph. The value and contrast in the photo works well with the smoke, showing darkness.

I like this picture a lot, but the bright blue sky to the tons of clouds really throws me off. I think maybe making the whole sky blue could help. And i like the reflection

Very good composition, love the symmetry in the shot. I do think though that it lacks punch, maybe colours/contrast needed a bit more fiddling with.

I like the contrast from beautiful sky right to polluted sky left. I'm not sure if its a product of the shadow/highlights process, but something doesn't look right along the bottom of the photo. It's blotchy compared to the rest of the image.

Great reflection. The smoke on the side allows for a dirty feel balancing out the blu esky well. Offers a good contrast. Nice work.

Really brave choice of lighting, using it to create silhouette-ish subject .. I love the sky this creates with the smoke but I can almost see interesting details around of the base of the building and it makes me want to see more..
