 Not really a polluting plant since this a geothermal power plant and the smoke is just non-polluting steam. I was going to shoot at another location with more steam and pipes but didn't find the road up to it in the dark.

Image processing were smallish adjustments in Lightroom and Photoshop for noise removal, shadow-highlight and contrast using curves and USM. Cropped and sharpened for the web.

I missed the vote on this one but it was my fav when I looked through the bunch. Great composition. A well deserved blue ribbon.

This meets the challenge for me because of a study I did a few years ago on light pollution, for a middle school science fair, admittedly, but a study nonetheless. Astronomers should be pretty familiar with the term. When you're traveling on the Interstate at night, and you see a sort of haze in the direction of a reasonably-sized city, you're seeing the effects of light pollution. :)

I'm so happy this won a ribbon! I am one of your 26 10's, so I feel proud to be one of the ones that fully appreciates the perfection of this amazig photo :) Unlike the ridiculous few who gave it a 2 or 3! (ridiculous and totally insecure and jealous, I suspect) :)

I love the stars and the green glow in the sky. In fact I like everything about this photo. If it were advanced editing I would probably reduce some the brightness on the end of the building but it's a small thing. I am predicting you and I are competing for a ribbon in this challenge.

This is my favorite image from the challenge. Even though this isn't a typical "pollution" it works well for the challenge. The light is extremely menacing to the scene yet it adds a lot to the image and that shows the pollution aspect. Its also an interesting building that is super streamlined and minimalistic which hints at no pollution, yet because of the challenge name it leaves some mystery to the building and suggests the fact that the building at hand may be hiding something bad.

super, simple, stunning, minimalistic image. absolute delight to look at. i do not even mind centered composition :) i wonder how would it look to have more on the left side and the pipe on the 1/3 line from right, so that the pipe does not divide the photo in two halves the way it is doing right now. 8

This is a nice clean photograph,but for some unknown reason i found it disturbing.While i'm in bed at night this flu is pumping out who knows what and furthermore does anyone care.Its probably only steam?

Excellent capture. Wind must have been howling as there's little movement in the stars yet good motion in the smoke.

This has an icelandic feel about it. Great stars, the smoke stream works great with the long exposure. I think this shot works well.

Interesting image.. Really like the glow of the sky and the streamlined smoke trail. but maybe it would have been more interesting composition if you had been closer and the image had been using the longness of the building.
