Challenge: Pattern III (Basic Editing)
Collection: 5.5 - 5.9
Camera: Canon EOS-30D
Lens: Sigma 180mm f/3.5 EX APO Macro IF HSM for Canon
Location: Charleston, SC
Date: Mar 22, 2008
Aperture: f/20
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/30
Galleries: Still Life, Macro
Date Uploaded: Mar 22, 2008

Taken in open shade using warming filter on a black cloth. Opened in RAW, adjusted shadows waaaaaay up to get rid of little imperfections in the cloth, though a couple little white specs are still left behind - hopefully not too noticeable. Otherwise just cropped and USM. Nothing too exciting, but good study in attempt to evenly light a curved object. Not easy, and not entirely a success.

Beautiful details and lighting to emphasize the symmetry of this cool shell.

Still a nice image, Catherine, and it seems like you learned while shooting it. That's always a good thing! :)

Haha, I had an exam on this yesterday.

Nice Shot! There is few ways to surpass the intricacy of patterns in nature.

The black background looks very nice. This does do a good job of showing pattern

This would make a good stock image for a textbook, but it lacks some of the intensity of other entries in this challenge.

Cropping out the black would have made this a winner

You might think I'm crazy here, but the symmetry of the shell almost dictates a symmetry of shot. You've got the cropping right, but the shell is placed asymmetrically within it. A slight twist to the right and you've got a perfect star, a perfect shell, perfect coloring and perfect cropping.

i like that you used radial symmetry here, which is usually hard to portray.

I like the clearness and the expression of the pattern, but the black background just isn't right to me.
