We were the only ones at the playground that day, determined not to let a little late snowfall deter us from the swings. Still, the boy was sad that nobody else was out. It was so unlike where we used to live, in California.

In Photoshop: Crop, tighten levels, boost saturation, use the diffuse glow filter, add a gradient map to soften the colors, unsharp mask around the boy.

I expect enough voters won't like the grainy look to this, or the snow bokeh in the foreground. After the challenge I'll add the original to this description.

Post-challenge: Wow! I flirted with a 6.4 for awhile, but I'm thrilled to get a new top 5!

Here's the original.

Aww at least there was snow! I was missing California after moving to Philly and it only snowed once! (I did a shoot in my bathing suit in it!) I like that it's fuzzy and the snow and everything, the photo would be a little plain without it.

Nice processing really brings out the snow beautifully. The child has a certain poignance to him in that pose. Quite a painterly creation. A painter, though, would not put that bright snowflake right over his head. I kinda like it, though, precisely because it reminds me that this is a photo, not a painting.
