Notice that the tulip is a print of my very first entry

Post: Didn't expect this to do so well, the refraction looks quite odd... Thanks for the votes and comments, folks!

Here is, as promised, the setup:

Further instructions: Keep the room as dark as possible. Press the shutter when the drop looks like this
, then you have a good chance to come up with a drop like in my final shot.

Congrats on the ribbon and a nifty image.

I'm wondering how you managed to get such a round water drop. Did you photograph it this way, or did you edit it?

Absolutely stunning on how this came out. The clarity of the tulip in the droplet and the droplet itself are amazing! This was my favorite entry of all of them. Beautiful work!

Oliver, you are really on a roll lately. You smashed your dream score out of the water I see, no pun intended. This is a very interesting shot. The tulip almost looks like it is in a mirror instead of a refracted drop. I don't think the refracted drop looks odd at all, though the tiny stem portion coming out of the faucet does give me pause. It's so minute that it doesn't detract, however.

Absolutely awesome image...

Love the refracted tulip in the Droplet. The bokeh'd background looks great.

How do you light this to get the water looking so nice?

It took me a little while to work out that the picture in the drop is a tulip. I like the shape of the drop and the bright oranges vs the grey, monochromatic tap.

Great crop, DoF and vignette of the flower in the water drop.

The tulip in the droplet turns this into a water drop photo with benefits. I love that golden orange/ red color. One of my faves. Good luck!

Excellent drop capture! I like the way you composed this with the faucet. I wonder if a blue background behind the refracted subject might have added some additional interesting color in the drop (but that's just my curiosity playing with an already great shot). Good luck, I'm sure you're doing very well with this one.

the drop that didn't want to drip
04/18/2008 02:04:36 PM
This is a really killer image. Even the sharpness of the faucet is nice. I like the discovery of what makes your background hidden in the drop. Really nice--one of my top 6 in the challenge.

8 - Nice processing.
04/17/2008 05:49:08 PM
A more interesting execution of the cliche water drop. This is punchy and graphical with a delectable quality through colour and clarity. I'd like to have seen a more identifiable flower form (tulip?) in the droplet and composition is bottom-heavy, but this will surely appeal to the smooth-centric voters here at DPC! You may end up with a coloured gif next to your title by the end.

Water falls from the sky. It then either goes down in the ground, getting filtered along the way, gets pumped back up for us to use again, or gets evaporated back up into the sky to start the cycle again. We have the same amount of water that we've always had... it's just recycled and refreshed continuously.
All of that said, this is a wonderful image and quite deserves the 10 I've given to it.
