Challenge: Free Study 2008-04 (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Pentax K100D
Lens: Tamron AF 18-250mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II LD Aspherical (IF) for Pentax
Location: Briones Regional Park, Martinez, CA
Date: Apr 5, 2008
Galleries: Nature, Floral
Date Uploaded: Apr 26, 2008

Shot this one way back at the beginning of the month on a hike at Briones, and its stuck in my mind ever since. Perhaps too simple for a free study, but something about it I really like. Not much editing; a little USM and maybe a touch of levels (edited it awhile back and didn't keep notes), but other than that this one is pretty close to straight from the camera.

Shot at 220mm, laying down in the grass from about 10 feet away or so as far as I can remember.

This is wonderful! Perfect use of shallow dof, and I love the way you found the little bunch of flowers peeking up over the rest.

lovely color, i probaly would have chosen a flower that was fully open, but the way you did it you got more shadow on the flower itself. cool focus too

An outstanding entry, and a fave from a person who is not keen on floral shots.

oh very nice indeed, it is lovely to see a flower portrait in its natural enviroment and you captured it so well with this low angle. this is a ready made print, well done 10

Ah, our friends, the California poppies. Beautiful as is, it would also be good looking if the left part was cropped to concentrate the viewer's attention on the threesome that stands out so perfectly.
