I had a very restless evening tonight where I didn't know what to do with myself. The weather was dreadful so I couldn't go out and shoot - so to express my general ennui and lack of purpose I did a self-portrait of me wasting my life away on facebook. One simple conversion later and I was happy enough with the shot to use it for the free study. I was actually quite annoyed by how well this would have met the 'Every Pictures Tells a Story' challenge, but it was taken the day before it was announced. This won't score well, but as ever I hope some folks will appreciate it!

B&W conversion through channel mixer, some selective USM and some dodge and burn.

POST-CHALLENGE: Very pleased and surprised that this scored so well - it was at 6.55 at one point in mid-week. Ultimately it dipped just below what I needed for a new PB but I'll keep trying!

Thanks very much for the positive comments!

I keep coming back to this one. Everything is perfect, from the glow of the laptop, to the reflection amongst the glittering raindrops, to the faint outline of the mug in the shadows. The subtle but intense emotion you've captured is so powerful. I've been wandering through your portfolio, and have really been enjoying how many of your other photographs also share this unusual quality. Keep up the stunning work! :)

What a beautiful view you have from your room. I loved all the aspects of lighting in this one but my fave thing was being able to see all those raindrops on the window. Congrats on a good score!

This is really quite good in my opinion. I like the way the monitor lights his face; lovelthe raindrops on the windwo and the scene beyond.

Now this is a great piece of work, straight out of a film, horror movie perhaps, sky looks creepy, rain always adds to the depressive mood, or in some cases leads to good moods, but nights on these PC's suck! 7

I take it you just hit the update button? Nice B&W photo and the model portrays the emotion quite well.

I'm not sure how this will score overall, but I love it. Lots of contrast, texture and it tells a story. Some great details all over this one. I do need to know what is on his screen. It could be a report for school that is due in the morning, or he could be agonizing over a poor freestudy score.
