Two Icelandic poppies....I'm hoping the Iceland connection will get me a good score.....LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!

Had another BW of a hanging lamp in a shop window that I love but it is an abstract....flower....abstract....flower....abstract....hmmmmmm...well actually flowers usually do better than abstracts so....flowers it is. Besides, the lighting, textures and translucence of some the petals makes this a bit more interesting than the straight flower shot, I hope.

Shot in studio, black velvet background, camera on tripod, cable remote.

Post: Camera Raw adjustments in PSElements 6.0. Convert to jpeg. Layer adjustments for levels, brightness/contrast and hue/saturation. Sharpen. New layer of hue/saturation converting to grayscale and another layer each of levels and brightness/contrast. There may have been a curves adjustment as well. Spot edit dust and imperfections on the petals. Crop. Resize. Sharpen.

I checked the background out on this to make sure there were no marks by inverting the image( ). DAMN! This would have made a great Negative Image entry....Hope I remember that if I need to....oh wait....it looks great in BW negative....not sure about color. Oh well!

Lovely composition and capture of all that crinkly petal detail. That oddly bent stem adds visual interest. Congrats on your top 20!

Elegant and rich at the same time. The emphasis on the ribby crinkly character of the petals is stunning, but combining it with the 3D effect (a result of focus/light/careful postprocessing?), not to mention the cunning positioning of the poppies pretty much blows away the poppy and other flower competition.

Congratulions m8. This was also one of my favorites from the challenge and glad you placed so well in this FS. Excellent shot. Flowers in b/w is one genre I admire, and this is very well done.
