post-challenge: WOOHOO!

Seriously, isn't the squiggle under her eye enough of an identifier of the Death character from the Sandman comics? I've never read those (but once had a girlfriend who did). If I had picked a better title I might have scored an extra 0.5

Awesome! When I saw the first pic I thought to myself 'She needs a top hat!' Which, I see she has! The model and the photos do the character amazing justice. its a shame you never read the sandman or the spin offs featuring Death, it might have helped with your title, which I agree, is lacking. Maybe something like 'A date with her will cost you 2 cents' although that is a little long... ;)

Anyway, Gratz on top 10! You should try doing a series featuring her other siblings.

Death has to be one of my all time favorite characters. So much so I drew a version of her and had her tattooed on my arm. Neil Gaiman is a literary Genius L()L. Did you know he is the only author to win an Literary award for writing a comic? Sandman no less.

First notice though from the look of the image is out of your control? The circle should be more in the outside corner of the eye than where it is. Second, Should have had the top had on in this one L()L with the ankh visible. One other observation is that her skin should be a bit more pale.

However, I do notice a bit of hot spotting on her nose and shoulder/arm. I think it would have been great to find a balance where it was not blown into stark white but showed a nice paleness to her skin.

Yet, I wonder what if you turned this into a b/w. To bad this is basic editing, I am thinking a selective colour to enhance the blacks and even out the whites to not blow her highlights. Also to mask the b/w selection limited to her cloths/hair/skin minus lips and background. Possible lighten the eyes a touch as well.

Overall my opinion of this image is that it was taken at an outdoor event, comic convention or the like. Very few I think know this character, as evident with the comments. I personally would have enjoyed viewing more of the character, the ankh, top hat, and tank top really help personify this character more clearly to those whom know. Also, I would have enjoyed an image without the bright white behind because of the blown shoulder. The version you have with the green foliage behind her in my opinion looks a bit cleaner in the background area and bleed between the two.

It's Death, whats not to like? Very nice work and fantastic scoring.

Scrumptious DOF choice, really stellar, and that oof background abstraction adds such a liveliness to the shot. Congratulations Rob on a truly excellent capture!

Title is a bit depressive. Love the overall look. It has a carnival sort of atmosphere.

Nice capture despite the blowouts on her nose and shoulder. Excellent use of a shallow DOF to separate the subject from the background. Nice expression on the model's face. Odd title though.

There are those that will think all portraits must be studio-created, with plain or controlled backgrounds and carefully positioned lights. I'm not one of them. I think this is dead-on for a portrait challenge. Lovely composition, great smile.

I love the limited color pallette and shallow depth of field. Nice soft smile. Framing is interesting having her off to the right facing the right... I would expect her to be more to the left... I like that it's an unusual crop. One of my favorites.

Great shot. Focus is crisp, model is beautiful, and the composition is great. I'm not a big titles guy, but I don't see "death" when I look at your photo. Sure there's some black in there, but overall I find your shot bright and lively. One of my top picks. 9

Interesting title for someone so obviously filled with spirit; a very pretty model. Great DOF control. My only comment is that you blew out her shoulder. This might have made good use of a portrait crop instead of the landscape view.

This is super cool. The expression, the color the dof all work together. Plus the subject is interesting which makes the shot lots of fun.

Ah! Sandman's Sister! I like this, and she certainly captures that spirit very well, and is a lovely subject. You nailed the exposure and focus on her, the sense of paleness is spot-on. I presume the basic editing rules prevent it, but I would like to see the background much less bright--she should be the brightest element in the image, as she is truly luminous here. I do like the slightly off center crop to this, but you might be able to crop in from each side some, and still retain that off-center dynamic. 8

I dunno, she looks friendly in this picture, with a reasonably nice smile. "Death" is a harsh title despite her nappy hair and goth-like makeup.
