This is my dad's cowboy hat. i was originally hoping to get a photo of the hat on a genuine Montana fencepost(lol) with a sunset in the background. unfortunatly, all the weather we've had has consisted of rain and cloudiness.

Once again, great composition but I'm confused as to what is causing the dark vertical band on the right - just a shadow?

I like how your eye is drawn to the hat then pulled to the background...are you shooting in RAW? I agree that the color is a little dull...but it has lots of potential...not sure what you did in PP as you don't list your steps...that would help me so I can see what you have done...

This shot has a lot of potential, it looks like the lighting was a little dull which in turn made the colors a little dull. Maybe try this one in black and white and do some dodging on the hat to really make it stand out, nonetheless a great tribute and a nice shot. Sorry comments took so long, hope they are helpful.

Critique Club Review:

Color/Saturation and hue are all good. Brightness is maybe a bit cool, but reading your comments there is only so much one can do with a cloudy day.

I like the texture on the fence posts, a bit brighter would have been better for my eyes. With the heavy border, the hat appears periously close to the edge of the frame. The shallow depth of field helps isolate the subject from the background, but at the same time renders the sky almost featureless. It does appear that there might be some patches of blue there. Or were they darker clouds?

The darkness at the left of the frame, joins to form a vertical shape that makes the picture a bit heavy and almost ominous. (Sort of..."and a shadow passed over the land... effect.)

Overall a good picture.

Simple and effective for this challenge. My only suggestion would be to maybe not have the sky in the image, but I still like this one as it is.....

A little USM would help this one. The skyline is a little distracting for me, and might be better taken from a higher viewpoint?

Field looks right, fence looks great, hat yea it's right- but what happened to the person in the hat?

I like it overall. The burning is a bit heavy, obvious...the wood grain of the fence post could be more prominent (sharper) with just a touch more contrast.

Could use more room at the top above the hat. The posts work well for creating leading lines to the hat.
